The shock mount attaches the shock absorber to the chassis of the vehicle. This mount has a center rubber bushing to absorb impact from the shock piston. When the shock mount fails it's typically related to the shock mount bushing wearing out. If you experience clunking from the rear of the vehicle when driving the rear shock mounts may need to be replaced. It's common to replace the shock mounts as preventative maintenance any time the shock absorbers are replaced.

Suspension Shock Absorber Mount

The suspension shock mount is a component that secures the shock absorber to the vehicle's chassis or body. It helps connect the shock absorber to the vehicle while allowing for the necessary movement and cushioning of the suspension system. The shock mount is typically made of metal and rubber, providing both strength and flexibility to absorb vibrations and shocks from the road.

Suspension Shock Absorber Mount Failure Symptoms
  • Clunking or Banging Noises: A worn or damaged shock mount can cause clunking, knocking, or banging noises, especially when driving over bumps, potholes, or rough roads. These sounds occur because the shock absorber is not properly secured to the vehicle, allowing it to move or rattle.
  • Increased Body Roll or Bouncing: A failing shock mount can prevent the shock absorber from doing its job correctly, leading to excessive body roll when cornering or increased bouncing when driving over bumps.
