Product Information

The spark plugs on the 911, Boxster, and Cayman require replacement every 40,000 miles. The ignition coils can last longer, but due to their proximity to the exhaust system they are prone to developing cracks and failing. When the ignition coils start to go bad it will turn the check engine light on for a cylinder misfire. This significantly reduces engine performance and driveability and in severe instances can lead to engine damage.

Since the ignition coils have to be removed to replace the spark plugs, and as preventative maintenance while you're in there, we have included them in this kit as a complete service solution to keep your Porsche performing in top shape.

Ignition Coil Kit

An ignition coil is a vital car component that produces high-voltage electricity to generate a spark at the spark plug, igniting the air-fuel mixture within the engine cylinder. When an ignition coil fails, it can cause engine misfires, rough idling, reduced power, an illuminated check engine light, difficulty starting the engine, and sometimes backfiring. These issues arise from weak or inconsistent sparks produced by the malfunctioning coil.

Ignition Coil Kit Failure Symptoms
  • Engine misfires: The most prominent sign, causing the engine to jerk or shudder, especially when accelerating, due to inconsistent combustion in one or more cylinders
  • Rough idling: The engine vibrates or shakes noticeably when idling due to uneven firing of cylinders
  • Decreased engine power: The car may feel sluggish or lack acceleration due to incomplete combustion

Plug and Coil Combo

Fixed a misfire in my 987.2
My base 2009 Cayman with 102k miles threw a misfire code and this kit fixed it. The parts appear to be good quality, and coils have the Beru brand with the word "Germany" identified on their tops. However, the boxes indicate made in China, so that's a little confusing. Thankfully none of the coils had the ugly green labels as pictured, though you'd never see those after installation even if they did. The DIY job was both easier and more difficult than I expected. Easier, in that removing the coils and plugs are easy in the limited space provided you have lots of wobbly extensions and none of the plugs are seized. Unfortunately, one of my plugs required me to use a 25" breaker bar and a bit of courage to turn it out. The plugs had last been changed at 40k miles so they and all the coils were overdue. My vehicle now runs much, much smoother in low RPMs, and of course the misfire is gone. Don't forget to clear the misfire code.

Porsche 981 Ignition coil Kit
Hi Everyone, Great Quality and priced well. I was able to DIY it in my garage, took me a couple hours, Driver side was a little harder to get out and replace, But just take your time. Nice ignition kit
My '09 Cayman started running rough and threw a misfire code. The service records that came with the car would indicate that the original coils were still in the car, 15 years old with 65,000 miles on them. The plugs had been replaced, but I figured that doing both would be a good way for me to bond with the car. The parts are good quality (the coil boxes indicate made in China, but the coils themselves have "Germany" on them, so not sure what the truth is there.) The job was easier than I expected on a mid-engine car, and the misfire is now gone. Love FCP Euro for offering a nice kit for a reasonable price.

Parts came in on time and well packed. Installation was straight forward, parts fit as they should. Fixed the miss fire in cyl. 2 & 6, performance is great and will definitely order this kit again...this was done on a 2012 Carrera S 991.1
