Hood Lift Support

Hood lift supports, or gas struts, are pressurized cylinders designed to hold up a car's hood. Over time, they can fail due to a pressure drop, often caused by exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, or contaminants. Cold weather, in particular, can reduce the gas pressure inside the struts, making them less effective at supporting the hood during cooler conditions.

Hood Lift Support Failure Symptoms
  • The hood may feel heavier or fail to stay open as high as before due to a gas leak in the lift support
  • Grease or oil leaking from the existing shocks
  • Seeping noise or creaks coming from the shocks when lifting the hood or trunk
  • Hood or trunk fails to stay open when raised

Cayenne front hood strut
Easiest replacement ever. Difficulty 1/10. Need flathead to pop open clip and then the struts pop right on and push the clips back down to lock them on. Done, and my hood stays open again. 2014 cayenne s
