Engine Connecting Rod Bearing

An Engine Connecting Rod Bearing is a precision bearing located between the connecting rod and the crankshaft journal in an internal combustion engine. Its role is to allow smooth rotation of the crankshaft while reducing friction and wear. These bearings are typically made from layers of soft metals (like copper, lead, or aluminum alloys) that can withstand high loads while still being sacrificial (wearing out before the crankshaft does).

Engine Connecting Rod Bearing Failure Symptoms
  • Knocking or tapping noise ("rod knock") – deep metallic knocking from the engine, especially under load or acceleration.
  • Low oil pressure – worn bearings create excess clearance, reducing oil pressure.
  • Metal shavings in oil – bearing material may flake off and appear in the oil or on the drain plug.

Are these standard sized rod bearings?

No, these are 0.25 mm / 0.010-inch undersize rod bearings, for use with crank journals machined from 55.00 mm down to approximately 54.75 mm. For an unmachined standard-size crankshaft, you would need the standard bearing set 021105701A.
