Have you ever had a hood fall on your head? If you have been so fortunate to not experience this we can assure you, it hurts. Mini uses gas pressure struts to keep hoods and trunks open for the most part. For one, this is convenient as you can simply open the hood and not have to worry about finding the hood support. However, this little part is often unappreciated until it won't support the weight of the hood anymore. Don't play games with your safety, replace worn hood supports with these replacements from Stabilus.

Hood Lift Support

Hood lift supports, or gas struts, are pressurized cylinders designed to hold up a car's hood. Over time, they can fail due to a pressure drop, often caused by exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, or contaminants. Cold weather, in particular, can reduce the gas pressure inside the struts, making them less effective at supporting the hood during cooler conditions.

Hood Lift Support Failure Symptoms
  • The hood may feel heavier or fail to stay open as high as before due to a gas leak in the lift support
  • Grease or oil leaking from the existing shocks
  • Seeping noise or creaks coming from the shocks when lifting the hood or trunk

Straight Swap onto Gen 1 Mini Cooper Hatch
Easiest Re&Re I've ever done. Note: Replace them in pairs - 1 is just not quite enough to hold up the bonnet, but 2 is more than sufficient.

Hood doesn't fall on me anymore!
I knew my hood struts were getting weak but when it actually fell on me, that was the last straw! 2 new hood struts and no more worries about "danger from above" while working under the hood.
