This water pump is designed without a vacuum-controlled impeller which eliminates the most failure-prone component of the cooling system.

Engine Water Pump

Your vehicles engine water pump is responsible for keeping coolant flowing through the engine. As water pumps get old the internal bearing can go bad causing noise and a coolant leak. A good indicator that your water pump is failing is if you see coolant leaking through the water pump "weep hole".

  • Play at water pump pulley shaft indicating a bad bearing

Will have check engine light
This water pump works well. Install was simple, but "eliminating the vacuum issue" causes a check engine light and good luck finding someone who can code it out. So now I have to buy another one (Febi Bilstein) and do the job again so I can make the check engine light go away

Where and how do I go about upgrading the software? I have installed the new pump due to external leaks and not I have a CEL.

You can have it manually coded out by a capable shop or with the proper software/knowledge you can manually code it yourself.

The description mentions this pump doesnt use vacuum to change the impeller, but I see a vacuum fitting on the pump. Is that vacuum fitting not connecting the vacuum line to anything? Is it then capped? If it's capped, do I need to modify the software of the car, or just installing this pump and doing nothing electronically will be sufficient?

The fitting is a blank, you can connect the line, and that allows you to close the system. You will not need to modify the vehicle's software.
