Mercedes Air Shock Assembly - Arnott Industries 1643205813 SKU 2450
This is an easy DIY job if you follow the excellent removal/installation video on the FCP website. I fitted this unit to the left front of my right-hand drive GL500 (5.5 l V8 X164 model), and the process is identical that on the video. Removal of original air shock took about 35 minutes and fitting this new unit about the same - it is possible to do it faster, but I took my time and enjoyed the process. Fitting requires no programming or complicated processes. It is a good idea to leave one of the top 3 tower nuts loosely mounted, to prevent the assembly sliding down and getting in the way while removing the lower bolts, especially the wiring. When installing the new unit, start by sliding it into the tower and again loosely mount one nut to hold the unit in place. You may require another person to assist with this step. Once the tire is fitted, take care to lower the vehicle to its estimated height only. DO NOT lower the vehicle all the way - it will damage the shock. Once you start the vehicle, it will inflate and hold the vehicle at the correct height. Then you are done. It may be a good idea to check the condition of your level sensors and levers while you are at it. Clean the joints if they are dirty, or replace them if corroded. As far as I can determine, this unit offers the same performance and feel I am used to - both on- and off-road, and is perfectly balanced with the right-hand original unit. I cannot comment on durability, because I have used it for one week only, but with the Arnott brand name and warranty, and the FCP lifelong warrantee, I have no concerns.
