Product Information

The most common high pressure fuel pump failure symptoms include hesitation under load, poor idle, and a check engine light with fault codes related to high fuel rail pressure. Before replacing the high pressure fuel pump we recommend verifying that there are no low pressure fuel supply issues as that will mimic high pressure circuit performance issues. When replacing the high pressure pump we also recommend replacing the fuel pump tappet that rides on the camshaft and drives the pump.

Direct Injection High Pressure Fuel Pump

A direct injection high pressure fuel pump (HPFP) is a critical component in modern gasoline direct injection (GDI) engines. Unlike traditional fuel pumps, it boosts fuel pressure to extremely high levels (often over 2,000 psi) so fuel can be directly injected into the combustion chamber. This enables better fuel atomization, improved efficiency, and higher power output. The HPFP is typically driven by the camshaft and works in tandem with a low-pressure fuel pump. Over time, wear, contamination, or internal failure can lead to drivability issues.

Direct Injection High Pressure Fuel Pump Failure Symptoms
  • Engine performance problems – hard starting, hesitation, misfires, or loss of power under load.
  • Fuel-related issues – check engine light, lean/rich codes, or reduced fuel economy.
  • Noises or leaks – ticking/whining sounds from the pump or visible fuel leakage at the pump area.

About Genuine Mercedes

The original parts used by Mercedes Benz to build your car are available as replacement parts under the “Genuine Mercedes Benz” brand. Manufactured under the direction of Mercedes Benz, expect excellent quality and a premium price since these parts are exclusively available through the Mercedes Benz Dealership network.

You may not realize this, but the parts that make up your Mercedes-Benz are not necessarily manufactured by Mercedes-Benz. No cause for concern, as Mercedes-Benz designs the part, hires a manufacturer, and ensures its quality to you. In fact, many of these manufacturers have been making parts for Mercedes-Benz for decades. In our industry these manufacturers are called OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers), and these are often brands you recognize, including Lemforder, ZF, Sachs, Bosch, Valeo, Zimmermann, Siemens VDO, Corteco, and more. Don’t be surprised to open that Genuine Mercedes-Benz parts box and find an OEM branded part inside, simply with the addition of a Mercedes-Benz logo.

Be sure to keep an eye out for OE tags on our product pages to quickly identify parts coming direct from OE manufacturers. That extra bit of insight could save you some serious money while shopping! Refer to our OE Academy for further information regarding the OE/OEM tags throughout the site.

Great product (obviously)
I'm writing this review to obviously praise FCP, but also warn others who faced the same dilemma that I faced. I was shopping for a pump that wasn't expensive to get a car going again without codes & the only two that practically exist, are the OEM ones & the sketchy China ones. I went with a cheapo one. It had paint on the parts that go into the engine, it threw a high pressure sensor code & I'm currently fighting with the company for a refund. THEN, obviously I bought this one which solved all of my problems. Don't play games, just buy this one.
