Product Information

Ignition Kit

An ignition coil is a vital car component that produces high-voltage electricity to generate a spark at the spark plug, igniting the air-fuel mixture within the engine cylinder. When an ignition coil fails, it can cause engine misfires, rough idling, reduced power, an illuminated check engine light, difficulty starting the engine, and sometimes backfiring. These issues arise from weak or inconsistent sparks produced by the malfunctioning coil.

Ignition Kit Failure Symptoms
  • Engine misfires: The most prominent sign, causing the engine to jerk or shudder, especially when accelerating, due to inconsistent combustion in one or more cylinders
  • Rough idling: The engine vibrates or shakes noticeably when idling due to uneven firing of cylinders
  • Decreased engine power: The car may feel sluggish or lack acceleration due to incomplete combustion

Great Kit. Good Value for OEM Bosch Parts, but Wrong Spark Plugs
I bought this kit over a year ago now, and I'm really happy with it. It's a complete overhaul of the ignition system, save for the coil (which I also bought here, and which I'm also happy with). The ONLY thing wrong with this kit is the park plugs. For the 560SEL and many other models, Mercedes specifies resistor-less spark plugs. The Bosch 7911 (WR9DC+) spark plugs in this kit do have resistors, however. I spent under $20 on eight alternative spark plugs that do not have resistors, and have been running those with the rest of the components in this kit. For the value and ease of just buying this kit in order to get all of the ignition system parts in one fell swoop, it's worth it despite the spark plugs.

Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
Yes, this would be correct for your application.
Question Posted by a customer
Why does this kit have a resistor plug in it, thats wrong, please correct it to a mercedes w9dco and include the correct plug in the kit. you know what happens to the distributer cap with those plugs ? do you have anyone in house who specializes in classic mercedes or is all your energy on bmw's and volkswagens? not cool at all and bogus to everyone you sold the kit too. can you offer the correct plug in the kit ?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
We appreciate the feedback, this kit includes part number BOS-0242225599 which is a long number for the Bosch W9DC+ which replaces the original spark plug w9dco. We actually have a team working on our Mercedes catalog but certainly value the feedback and suggestions from our customers. Happy to make variants of this kit based on customer suggestions and if there is a set up you would like for us to put together please be sure to let us know.
