Pertronix originally started in 1962 under the name Per- Lux, predominantly focused on manufacturing fog lights for the trucking industry. In the early seventies an engineer devised a plan to replace the points and condenser in distributors. The Ignitor was patented and had an instant success in improving performance for many industrial applications. In the early nineties Pertronix shifted their focus to the automotive industry and were committed to improving ignition systems and developing their offerings to the market. They currently produce millions of ignition units for many foreign and domestic auto manufacturers.

The Ignitor Electronic Ignition system replaces breaker points and troublesome factory electronic ignitions with a reliable, durable, and maintenance free electronic ignition system. The system offers quick installation delivering double the voltage to the spark plugs. The design of the components is resistant to the environment of the engine bay. The part is legal in all 50 states including Canada. Improvements are most noticeable at idle and continue throughout the rpm range of the engine. An added benefit is that aftermarket distributors are not required.
