Product Information

Description

A fuel pump sending unit is a component within the fuel tank that measures the fuel level and sends that information to the car's gauge, essentially acting as a "float" that moves up and down with the fuel level, translating that movement into an electrical signal; a failing fuel pump sending unit will result in inaccurate fuel gauge readings, such as the gauge showing empty when the tank is full, stuck on full, or wildly fluctuating between levels.

Failure Symptoms

  • Inaccurate fuel gauge readings: This is the most obvious sign, where the gauge may show a significantly different fuel level than what is actually in the tank.
  • Fuel gauge stuck on full: The gauge may remain at full even when the tank is nearly empty.
  • Fuel gauge fluctuating wildly: The needle on the gauge may jump erratically between different levels.

About Genuine Mercedes

The original parts used by Mercedes Benz to build your car are available as replacement parts under the “Genuine Mercedes Benz” brand. Manufactured under the direction of Mercedes Benz, expect excellent quality and a premium price since these parts are exclusively available through the Mercedes Benz Dealership network.

You may not realize this, but the parts that make up your Mercedes-Benz are not necessarily manufactured by Mercedes-Benz. No cause for concern, as Mercedes-Benz designs the part, hires a manufacturer, and ensures its quality to you. In fact, many of these manufacturers have been making parts for Mercedes-Benz for decades. In our industry these manufacturers are called OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers), and these are often brands you recognize, including Lemforder, ZF, Sachs, Bosch, Valeo, Zimmermann, Siemens VDO, Corteco, and more. Don’t be surprised to open that Genuine Mercedes-Benz parts box and find an OEM branded part inside, simply with the addition of a Mercedes-Benz logo.

Be sure to keep an eye out for OE tags on our product pages to quickly identify parts coming direct from OE manufacturers. That extra bit of insight could save you some serious money while shopping! Refer to our OE Academy for further information regarding the OE/OEM tags throughout the site.

Mercedes Fuel Tank Sender Assembly
My pump failed on me after filling up car at a gas station. This main pump had failed, due to connector melting the top of pump plastic cover and essentially driving a hole right through. I was able to DIY fix using gas resistant epoxy however the sender unit had also failed. Although you can technically replace internal pumps and filters, the fact the plastic casing had deteriorated so much it wasn't worth it. Dealer wanted almost double price for parts and another $1500-2000 for install. I purchased both this part and sender unit from FCP knowing they had best pricing, and Lifetime Warranty. Considering original pump lasted 16 years...lets just hope FCP is still carrying part until then :D. Do not forget to purchase associated gaskets and the updated wiring harness/loom to attach to existing connections since they updated plug with new part.

Question Posted by Eric
Is this part a direct replacement(plug and play) for the fuel sender in my 2005 Mercedes E55? Is the adapter harness required?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
We have no way to determine if your vehicle has been updated, we recommend purchasing the adapter harness.
