Product Information

The most common fuel pump failure symptoms include stalling, no starts or hard starts, and momentary power loss during steady state driving. Factors that decrease fuel pump performance include dirt or restrictions from fuel filters, corroded fuel pump harness connections, and issues with the fuel pump control system such as the FSCU/Engine computer/fuel pressure relay etc. When replacing your fuel pump, we also recommend replacing your fuel filter fuel pump relay (where applicable).

Fuel Pump and Sender Assembly

The fuel pump and sender assembly is an integrated unit located inside the fuel tank that delivers pressurized fuel to the engine while monitoring fuel level for the gauge cluster. The pump ensures consistent fuel flow for proper engine performance, while the sender uses a float mechanism to provide accurate fuel level readings. Built with durable materials and engineered for precise operation, the assembly is critical for reliable starting, efficient combustion, and accurate fuel monitoring.

Fuel Pump and Sender Assembly Failure Symptoms
  • Hard starting or engine stalling – caused by insufficient fuel delivery.
  • Inaccurate or erratic fuel gauge readings – due to a failing fuel level sender.
  • Loss of power under load or hesitation during acceleration – indicates a weakening or failing pump.

About Genuine Mercedes

The original parts used by Mercedes Benz to build your car are available as replacement parts under the “Genuine Mercedes Benz” brand. Manufactured under the direction of Mercedes Benz, expect excellent quality and a premium price since these parts are exclusively available through the Mercedes Benz Dealership network.

You may not realize this, but the parts that make up your Mercedes-Benz are not necessarily manufactured by Mercedes-Benz. No cause for concern, as Mercedes-Benz designs the part, hires a manufacturer, and ensures its quality to you. In fact, many of these manufacturers have been making parts for Mercedes-Benz for decades. In our industry these manufacturers are called OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers), and these are often brands you recognize, including Lemforder, ZF, Sachs, Bosch, Valeo, Zimmermann, Siemens VDO, Corteco, and more. Don’t be surprised to open that Genuine Mercedes-Benz parts box and find an OEM branded part inside, simply with the addition of a Mercedes-Benz logo.

Be sure to keep an eye out for OE tags on our product pages to quickly identify parts coming direct from OE manufacturers. That extra bit of insight could save you some serious money while shopping! Refer to our OE Academy for further information regarding the OE/OEM tags throughout the site.

Perfect Pump
Replaced this level sending unit on my 07 C230 E85 flex fuel. This unit goes behind the driver left side. The right side is the fuel pump. Fairly easy to replace just make sure you have the least amount of fuel in the tank and battery disconnected.

Sending Unit Level Sensor
I have an 07 C230 sport and was preforming a service B which called for a fuel filter change. For some reason this model didn't have a regular fuel filter installed, so I changed this one, because it was the only one onboard. Note: this is not the fuel pump, that is on the right side under the back seat. The unit worked like a champ, all the connections were the same as the one I was replacing and I've had no issues to date; it was installed in Oct 2019. I would caution those DIY'ers though, this model doesn't have the twist off securing ring like maintenance manual tells you. It's more of a clamp ring, once you remove the ring retaining screw, just pry one side of the ring apart and gently raise it up off the lip of the component.
