Engine Mount

Engine mounts are designed to keep your engine and transmission supported and fixed to your vehicles frame or sub-frame without causing excessive vibrations that can enter the cabin. Engine mounts keep your drive-train properly aligned and if failed can promote drive train vibrations and premature component wear. Over time, your engine mounts deteriorate resulting in extra engine noise, engine rocking, a less enjoyable driving experience, and thus must be replaced.

Engine Mount Failure Symptoms
  • Engine Vibration
  • Drivetrain Vibration
  • Uneven Engine surface
  • Engine Rock during gear changes
  • Engine Rock during braking

Originally founded in 1849 as a leather tannery Freudenburg started making seals in 1932 with the invention of the Simmerring®. This seal style quickly replaced felt seals as the new standard for radial shaft sealing rings for rotating shafts/assemblies. Freudenburg began engineering and manufacturing vibration control technology with shock absorbers and bushings in 1957. It was in that same year that Freudenburg partnered with an Italian seal manufacturer Corte & Cosso, creating the Corteco brand. Continuing their history of innovation, Corteco introduced Micronair cabin filters in 1989 and quickly became the market leader in cabin filtering technology.

With over 26,000 parts and products in their product line, Corteco has one of the largest catalogs of sealing and vibration controls. FCP Euro has partnered with Corteco for the 2019 TC America Championship. They are a title sponsor on our 2018 Volkswagen GTI TCR race cars. We offer Corteco's full line of OE and OEM components for your European vehicle.

2008 W221 S550 4-Matic
The literal cure to numbing vibrations when stopped in “Drive” gear with brakes held down. (Long read ahead) For those of you attempting this project yourself to save the $2000 that the dealer charges or the $600+ an indy would most likely charge: the transmission mount is a cake-walk, as long as you can get underneath the vehicle and take the weight of the transmission off the mount. For the engine mount, there’s been LOTS of methods mentioned in the forums over the last 15 years. The method I’ve chosen is by lifting the engine with a basic cherry picker (engine hoist) from Harbor Freight and lift until the axles are just about to touch the subframe. Then I got a long pry bar and used it to shift the entire engine left and right as necessary to pop the mounts out. I didn’t have to drop the sway bar, or remove the steering coupling, or remove any axles. For the passenger-side mount, I did have to drop the alternator but the 4 bolts were super easy to get to since the engine is slightly up in the air and there’s plenty of clearance.

Smooth, high quality
Amazing!! definitely an all day project on my 2011 S550 4matic but it was well worth it. Keep in mind you'll need a special 17mm wrench that can be found for about $20 to remove the top mounting bolts as space is very limited. The quality of the mounts is great, and the car idles so smooth that I can't even tell if it's running or not! Highly recommend!

Engine mounts make your engine run very smooth
I began feeling vibrations from the engine when I was stopped at a traffic light, and if I put the car in neutral the vibrations went away. Changed the engine and transmission mounts and the vibrations were gone. The car felt smoother and quieter not just while stopped but while driving too. Definitely recommend changing these on an older car that has not had them changed. For a W221 S550 4-Matic, you need to remove the passenger side front axle to be able to raise the engine enough to install the new engine mount.

just like oem mounts
These are a pain to install, but the parts work perfectly just like OEM. Great kit, it should probably include hardware though, as they like to corrode.
