An engine cooling fan clutch is a thermostatic device that controls the operation of the engine’s cooling fan based on temperature. It engages or disengages the fan depending on engine heat and air conditioning demand, reducing unnecessary drag on the engine when full cooling isn’t required. This helps improve fuel efficiency, reduce noise, and maintain proper engine temperature.

Engine Cooling Fan Clutch Failure Symptoms
  • Engine overheating, if the clutch fails to engage the fan when extra cooling is needed.
  • Excessive fan noise (“roaring” sound), if the clutch is stuck engaged and the fan runs at full speed all the time.

IMPORTANT This clutch is 2" thick. The original is 2 1/2". If you try and install using the original center bolt you will have lots of axial play, be scratching your head and have to do it twice. I don't know if a shorter bolt is available, I'm going to cut 1/2" off mine. Can't really comment on quality yet, have to finish install.
