This snap ring secures the intermediate shaft to the engine oil pan on 4Matic equipped applications. We recommend replacement of the bearing and snap ring any time the intermediate shaft is removed.

The most common service that necessitates the removal of the intermediate shaft is replacement of the driver side CV axle.
