How Do I Determine My Chassis Number?

We'll use the following as an example: "From Chassis F565689". The "F" would be the 7th digit of your vehicles VIN while the "565689" will be your last 6 digits of the VIN. You can use this to determine proper brake pad fitment.

Let's face it, brakes pads hands down are the most important components of our vehicle. Our brake pads allow us to stop our vehicles with a simple push of a brake pedal. Unfortunately they don't last forever and are considered to be a major wear item which must be replaced before they completely wear out and damage the brake rotor costing you more in repairs. Brake pads can be made of several materials such as a semi-metallic compound, ceramic compound, or organic. FYI - does not fit R129 SL with unvented rear discs
Does not fit my 1994 Mercedes R129 SL500's rear calipers over non-vented discs. Based on some research, the rear brakes were revised for 1999 with bigger calipers and vented discs. So this pad probably only fits R129 SL's from model year 1999 and later. On my W140, the Akebono ceramic pads were fantastic and had great progressive stopping power with very low dust. Unfortunately, per Akebono's catalog, there is no Akebono ceramic option for the rear brakes on the 1998 and older R129 SL.
