Clutch Pilot Bearing

A pilot bearing is a small bearing located at the end of the crankshaft, which helps to properly align the transmission input shaft when the clutch is disengaged; a failing pilot bearing often manifests as a whining or grinding noise, particularly when engaging or disengaging the clutch, along with potential difficulty shifting gears, vibrations, and in severe cases, the transmission popping out of gear.

  • Noises: A whining, grinding, or whirring sound when depressing or releasing the clutch pedal.
  • Shifting issues: Difficulty shifting gears, especially into first or reverse, or the transmission popping out of gear.
