Porsche updated the primary and scavenge oil pump design several times over the life of this engine platform. This is normal when a manufacturer introduces a new engine and then refines it based on long-term, real-world use. These updates didn’t change how the car drove day-to-day, but they did improve oil pressure stability and durability over very long mileage. At the time your car was built, Porsche used the best version available then. The advantage we have today is that, if you are inside the engine or replacing components, you can install the latest revision so the engine benefits from everything Porsche learned afterward. This kit specifically targets those updates. Please note that you will lose coolant and oil during the repair. 1 gallon of coolant will come with this kit and we recommend purchasing the oil of your choice separately.

can this be installed while the engine is still in the car?

Yes, this Pierburg oil scavenge pump kit can generally be installed with the engine in the car on the listed Porsche Boxster/Cayman/911 applications, but access is tight and proper pump drive alignment is important during installation.
