Product Information

OE quality replacement voltage regulator from Bosch. If your alternator is not running at the correct voltage it could be due to a faulty voltage regulator. Replacing the regulator is often more cost effective than replacing an entire alternator.

Charging System Voltage Regulator

A Voltage Regulator is a component in a vehicle's charging system that controls the output voltage from the alternator to the battery and electrical system. Its primary role is to ensure the voltage remains within a safe range, typically around 13.5-14.5 volts, to prevent overcharging or undercharging the battery and other electronic components. Maintaining stable voltage is essential for protecting the battery and ensuring that electrical components receive consistent power.

Charging System Voltage Regulator Failure Symptoms
  • Dimming or Flickering Lights: A faulty voltage regulator can cause inconsistent power output, resulting in dimming, flickering, or overly bright headlights and interior lights. This is often more noticeable when electrical demand is high
  • Battery Warning Light: If the regulator fails, the battery light on the dashboard may illuminate, indicating an issue with the charging system. This can happen if the regulator causes overcharging (high voltage) or undercharging (low voltage), which may deplete or damage the battery
  • Dead or Overcharged Battery: A defective voltage regulator can either undercharge or overcharge the battery. Undercharging leads to insufficient power for starting the engine, while overcharging can cause battery overheating, leakage, or even permanent damage

Perfect for 2004 330ci
I don't know why fitment isn't listed for the E46, but this works if you have the oval plug on an MS45 E46, Z4 etc with the oval plug Bosch alternator.

regulator / rectifier
This was exactly what I needed. My brushes were worn out and giving me occasional red battery lights. This fixed that and was an easy install.

Will NOT fit Valeo Alt. on 04 BMW 530i
BMW shows P/N 12 31 7 515 319 is the correct voltage regulator with VIN search on my car (early 2004 530i). But, BMW used Valeo alternators on these cars and Bosch part doesn't meet form and fit requirement of the Valeo voltage regulator. Excellent customer service provided by Nik to process the return.

Fit my '05 E46 325i alternator
Originally purchased 12317559183, which has a rectangular plug, before realizing my voltage regulator had a rounded side plug. Double check the plug style on the back of your voltage regulator before purchasing to ensure you have the correct one.

2004 530i
Kept getting trifecta lights, steering wheel (active steering, dsc, and brake light in the cluster. Tell tale signs of bad voltage due to electronics shutting down. Changed the voltage regulator and all the lights went away on their own within a day. If you have a problem like this, the brushes on your voltage regulator are probably worn down there for not charging your system properly.

Works Perfectly
I used this voltage regulator to rebuild my failed alternator on my BMW 330i ZHP and it worked perfectly! Very easy to do and saved me so much money from having to purchase a brand new or rebuilt alternator. Thanks FCP Euro.

Questions & Answers

Ask a question
Question Posted by Ryan
As asked by another question, why are the LCI E46's with MS45 not on this list? Should be a good match
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
BMW OE data and Bosch fitting data do not list this part number for any E46 variations. The OE numbers (for the Bosch 120a) regulator is 12317559183 from what I can see. DME version does not dictate all equipment and programming, ultimately. As indicated in the other answer, if the full part number matches, sure, they should be a replacement, but there are multiple part numbers and the BR14C0 is not a the full Bosch part number.
Question Posted by Remzi
I have an 05 330i auto with the same part no:BR14C0 and same kind of plug (oval). Looks like this should fit although my car is not listed as compatible?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
This does appear to be compatible based on the Bosch F00MA45219 number, but not by OE number any longer. This may be due to changes in data over time, but if the full part number under the BR14C0 is the same I would say this is a match.
