Product Information

The BMW S65 engine can experience issues with the original plastic VANOS covers when the covers start cracking, breaking, or becoming loose or when the covers completely fall off. There is a risk of catastrophic internal engine damage if the above occurs.

Unfortunately, the covers are not available by themselves and the complete VANOS unit has to be purchased which can become very expensive.

Evolve has developed their own replacement VANOS covers in conjunction with Mr. Vanos which are a true replacement for the original part.

Unlike other products on the market, they do not leave the springs exposed. These covers are made of T6082 aluminum, eliminating the risk of future cover failure which could ultimately lead to engine failure.

Installation is straightforward and no special tools are required.

Vanos Caps
Bit of a long review, but I think it's important. These seem to be great quality. It’s a smart thing to do, especially if you already have the valve cover off. People are starting to report these plastic caps breaking apart inside the engine — that actually what happened to me (1 cap broke off). With the increase in age and miles with these cars, it’s just good peace of mind to swap them out. At first, I was going to use the other style that gets held in by the VANOS bolts, but that requires messing with timing, and I wasn’t trying to go down that road. These clip-on ones are way more DIYable. My only initial concern was that the clip teeth on these were shorter than some other brands I’ve seen, and I wasn’t sure how well they’d stay in. But it’s been over 1,000 miles now, and the two I can see through the oil fill hole are still holding on perfectly. Zero issues. You do occasionally hear stories about some aftermarket caps falling off (rare, and probably due to installer error) — but that’s a big deal since these are metal and not plastic like the OEM ones. Sreten from the M539 YouTube channel said that if you're going clip-on, go with the Evolve caps. If I had to choose one person I trust online when it comes to BMWs, it’s him. They’re a bit more expensive than some of the others, but with components sitting inside your engine, it’s not worth the gamble. Just make sure they’re fully seated when you clip them on, and you’re good to go. I'll be keeping an eye on the two I can see through the oil cap from time to time and will edit or write another review if I see any issues. BTW, when you do remove the old plastics caps, put a towel or something underneath them. They will probably be brittle and break apart and you don't want pieces to fall down into the engine.
