Product Information

This electric actuator sits inside the cylinder head and controls the position of the intermediate shaft to control intake variable valve lift. This Valvetronic actuator is part of BMW's third generation of the system and works both as the actuator and the sensor which were previously separate parts.

When this actuator fails it will typically be at the minimal lift position which means the engine develops no more power than it can at idle speed. It is located in a recess in the cylinder head and involves the removal of the injectors, ignition coils, and recess wells in order to remove the actuator.

Please note: To replace the eccentric shaft actuator on an N55 engine, you only need to remove the spark plug/injector wells for cylinders 1–2 and 3–4; cylinders 4–6 do not need to be disturbed. Removal of all spark plug/injector wells is only necessary when replacing the eccentric shaft itself.

VVT kit
My 2016 435i with only 42,000 miles had that dreaded rattle on awakening and ran rough without throwing an engine light. After a bunch of online research and watching multiple YouTube videos, I determined that I needed this kit as the VVT actuator was the issue. Whole job took me 3 days, 4-5 hours a day and about 15 hours total as I am a novice and had only done brakes, plugs, and oil changes before. I also purchased 2 fuel injector tool kits from Amazon, one to pull and reinstall the injectors and another to remove and install the new teflon seals. Removing one star from my review because the replacement aftermarket injector insulator bushings would not fit so I had to reuse the original bushings, not a big deal except for the almost $40 dollars that I lost but I know that I saved thousands in labor by doing it myself. Overall, job went well, this kit fixed the issue (hardest part was reinstalling the valve cover and gasket) and 3 months later the car still runs great.

Valvetronic Actuator kit
This was a solid purchase for my '15 535ix and solved that clicking noise when the VVT motor wakes up before engine start as well as a few seconds after the engine is shut off. The other issue it solved was when the VVT motor would fail every time the car would reach operating temp... Feels like a hard transmission shudder or malfunction when you are driving... Its actually the computer abruptly shutting off the VVT motor/actuator and switching over to using the throttle body to meter the air intake. Fortunately, my eccentric shaft did not require replacement. The kit has everything you need and my car has been running beautifully for the last 8k miles. Anyway, its an intimidating job, but there are plenty of Youtube videos on how to do it... Patience is the most important tool you will need.

determined defective by mechanic shop
vvt came in fast but was not performing so as result had to buy the exact same 500$ part so I can send the defective one back. I believe time was wasted rather than money because I did get reimbursed so overall I think that solved my problem.
