Product Information

Complete timing chain kit for your M52TU or M54 powered BMW

Over the course of tens of thousands of miles your BMW's timing system can wear out needing replacement. This can happen for a variety of reasons. One of the more common failures we see is due to lack of oil changes or services which can wear down components such as the timing chain or guide rails.

If your BMW is making knocking or rattling noises from inside the timing cover we recommend immediate inspection of the timing components such as the timing chain, tensioner, and guide rails.

This kit comes with everything you will need to service your BMW's timing system. We also include all the gaskets required when it comes time to reassemble your engine. This kit is ideal for those who are looking to simply replace their timing components or who are completely rebuilding their engine.

For M52TU and M54 engines produced from 9/1998 and up to 9/2002.

Engine Timing Chain Kit

An engine timing chain is a crucial component in an internal combustion engine that synchronizes the rotation of the crankshaft and camshafts. It ensures that the engine's valves open and close at the proper times during each cylinder's intake and exhaust strokes, maintaining optimal engine performance. Timing chains are typically made of metal and are designed to last for the life of the engine, though they can wear out or become damaged over time. Damaged or stretched chains can impact the timing on an engine and overwork the tensioner, failures in this system can cause catastrophic engine failure and costly repairs.

Engine Timing Chain Kit Failure Symptoms
  • Noise: A common symptom of a failing timing chain is a rattling or slapping noise coming from the engine, especially during startup or acceleration. This noise may be more pronounced at idle or startup
  • Poor Engine Performance: If the timing chain is stretched, it can lead to decreased power, acceleration problems, or sluggish performance

Don't forget the upper camshaft chain
Kit was really convenient but completely caught me off guard with no upper timing chain, tensioner, or guide rail.

Don’t forget the upper chain!
I didn’t triple check what comes with this “kit” it does not include both timing chains. Four stars due to the fact that if you’re going to sell a kit, why not sell the whole kit? Especially considering it’s a timing chain kit without both chains. Great folks regardless.
