Product Information

Suspension Strut Assembly

If your ride feels a little bouncy or you can feel clunks in the suspension while it's going over bumps it is likely due to worn strut assemblies and shock absorbers. The purpose of the strut assembly is it acts as a central pivot point for the suspension while housing the coil spring. It also dampens the compression and rebound of the coil spring as the suspension moves up and down. When replacing suspension components it is highly recommended to replace them in pairs.

Suspension Strut Assembly Failure Symptoms
  • Noise over bumps
  • Abnormal tire wear
  • Vehicle wandering while driving
  • Poor Steering response
  • Poor Handling
  • Harsh ride

Shipping concerns
I ordered two Bilstein front shocks for our BMW X1. They took longer than usual to ship and when they arrived the Bilstein boxes were in bad shape and the struts were loose inside. One strut was missing the top nut, which I found in the other box. How did that happen? It's pretty clear these struts have been opened previously and probably shipped before too. They should have been sold as open box or as a returned item.

Questions & Answers

Ask a question
Question Posted by a customer
Is this for a 2014 bmw x1 35i with S226 sports suspension?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
These are oe replacement style struts and do not mention requirement of S226 - I see no reason these wouldn't fit and function but travel and valving may be inadequate for the right height associated with the springs on your setup. If your vehicle has electronic dampening or similar, these do not account for those functions. I
Question Posted by a customer
