If your BMW's ride feels a little bouncy or you can feel clunks in the suspension while it's going over bumps it is likely due to worn strut assemblies and shock absorbers. The purpose of the strut assembly is it acts as a central pivot point for the front suspension while housing the coil spring. It also dampens the compression and rebound of the coil spring as the suspension moves up and down.

What is the difference between the black OE model made by bilstein and the 4600 series? Is it a better strut, more durable, stiffer/performance oriented?

Bilstein B4 Toruing are OE twin tube replacements with an OE damping rate for a factory ride. Bilstein 4600 shocks are a high performance monotube with more aggressive damping. One is not more durable than the other, rather it's strictly about performance characteristics. If you want to retain the factory ride use the Bilstein Touring and if you'd like to improve the way the car responds go with the the Bilstein 4600. However, please note the ride quality with the 4600's will be compromised over the B4 in terms of comfort.
