If your BMW's front suspension feels kind of soft it is likely due to worn out suspension components. Strut assemblies in particular are notorious for wearing out with high mileage resulting in a poor ride and poor handling. Always replace struts in matched pairs for the best service life, performance, and safety.

Per BMW it is absolutely vital to replace the bump stops when installing new strut assemblies.

Suspension Strut Assembly

If your ride feels a little bouncy or you can feel clunks in the suspension while it's going over bumps it is likely due to worn strut assemblies and shock absorbers. The purpose of the strut assembly is it acts as a central pivot point for the suspension while housing the coil spring. It also dampens the compression and rebound of the coil spring as the suspension moves up and down. When replacing suspension components it is highly recommended to replace them in pairs.
