Product Information

B4 series, twintube, OE replacement strut assembly

If the front end of your BMW feels "bouncy" or isn't as planted to the road as it once was it is likely due to worn out strut assemblies. The main purpose of the strut assemblies is to dampen the rebound of the coil springs and to provide a comfortable and controlled ride. Failed strut assemblies have many telltale signs of failure including leaks, squeaking and broken mounting brackets. We also recommend replacing strut assemblies in pairs for best performance and service life.

Bilstein B4 OE Replacement Series gas pressure shocks and struts are specifically engineered to be the best choice for maintaining the original ride quality of your vehicle, while meeting or exceeding OE standards. These dampers are the ideal choice for the driver looking to restore the original performance and handling of their vehicle, with the added benefit of world-famous Bilstein quality.

WARNING: Proposition 65 information
Suspension Strut Assembly

If your ride feels a little bouncy or you can feel clunks in the suspension while it's going over bumps it is likely due to worn strut assemblies and shock absorbers. The purpose of the strut assembly is it acts as a central pivot point for the suspension while housing the coil spring. It also dampens the compression and rebound of the coil spring as the suspension moves up and down. When replacing suspension components it is highly recommended to replace them in pairs.

Suspension Strut Assembly Failure Symptoms
  • Noise over bumps
  • Abnormal tire wear
  • Vehicle wandering while driving
  • Poor Steering response
  • Poor Handling
  • Harsh ride

About Bilstein B4 OE Replacement

Bilstein shocks and strut perform due to their larger piston area and quality manufacturing. Bilstein Touring (B4): The Bilstein B4 Series provides the same OEM quality and ride stability for the aftermarket. Bilstein uses both monotube and twin-tube technology to give the best in OE replacement driving comfort at a great economical price. Good compromise
Replaced EDC shocks with 320K on them. Was worried that the car would ride hard on non BMW shocks. These are about half way between EDC comfort vs sport so overall not bad. Firmer than the old day to day, doesn't corner quite as well when flat out, but a good compromise. (And no clunking...) Fit was perfect.

Questions & Answers

Ask a question
Question Posted by Paul
How does this shock compare to the original equipment M-Sport package shock absorber? is it 100 % stiffer than the standard e38 shock like the original one? Is this shorter like the original than the standard suspension setup?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
These will be stiffer for sure but only slightly, I would not have much experience on that application specifically but generally speaking though the B4's are meant to be closer to factory on cars of this size they are typically stiffer. I would not be able to give you a fair percentage on that, but it will be noticeable.
Question Posted by Ziyad
What do these struts include? I am curious what to order.
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
This p/n contains one (1) OEM Bilstein strut assembly as pictured. No additional hardware is included.
