Product Information

B6 series, 46mm monotube strut assembly

If the front end of your BMW is feeling "bouncy" or "loose" it can likely be attributed to blown or worn strut assemblies. The purpose of the strut assembly is to dampen the recoil of the coil spring as your travel over dips and bumps in the road. Some signs of a failed strut includes knocking sounds, leaks, poor road holding, or broken brackets

Bilstein B6 Heavy Duty monotube gas pressure shocks and struts are the ideal choice for most vehicles, including full-size sedans, SUVs and trucks. These shocks provide improved handling and stability, without sacrificing ride comfort. They offer super damping ability that makes them ideal for the driver who demands superior performance, while maintaining an exceptional street ride.

WARNING: Proposition 65 information
Suspension Strut Assembly

If your ride feels a little bouncy or you can feel clunks in the suspension while it's going over bumps it is likely due to worn strut assemblies and shock absorbers. The purpose of the strut assembly is it acts as a central pivot point for the suspension while housing the coil spring. It also dampens the compression and rebound of the coil spring as the suspension moves up and down. When replacing suspension components it is highly recommended to replace them in pairs.

Suspension Strut Assembly Failure Symptoms
  • Noise over bumps
  • Abnormal tire wear
  • Vehicle wandering while driving
  • Poor Steering response
  • Poor Handling
  • Harsh ride

Bilstein hits the mark as usual
Great upgrade replacement to your tired Sachs originals. Slightly firmer going over uneven roads. If you want a M-level firmness use this one. If you want OE firmness use regular version. Combine this with new control arm bushings or thrust arms (upper and lower for Xi) and you thank yourself mile after mile.

Heavy Duty
Broke a coil spring on my 06 BMW 530 xi wagon (E61) so decided to replace my struts as I was incurring labour costs in any event. I wasn't looking to upgrade per se. I chose these as the most reasonable priced struts. My old strurs were original and had 217 km. WOW what a difference these made in the car. The ride is much firmer, but not rough. Really absorbs rough roads and makes the car feel more solid. They did raise the front of the car about 1.5" which may be an issue for some, but it was a plus from me as I do a lot of winter driving to ski hills and the limited ground clearance was a problem. From reviews elsewhere I understand they tend to settle after a couple of weeks driving. I hope not as I appreciate the greater clearance as this is my daily ride.

Questions & Answers

Ask a question
Question Posted by Laurentiu
Hi! Would this work with the stock spring without issues? 2010 E61 BMW 535i xDrive wagon.
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
Yes, this front-left Bilstein B6 strut works with the stock spring on a 2010 BMW E61 535i xDrive wagon. It is a direct-fit performance replacement for the factory damper and retains the original ride height, although its firmer valving will feel more controlled than the stock strut.
Question Posted by Sudeep
Ok. So the bumper stopper is integrated in the damper. Will the OEM style dust bellow fit ?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
The OEM bellow will likely not fit as the diameter of the piston shaft is nearly 4 times thicker than a standard replacement. It is recommended to use the bellow included with the strut out of the box as Bilstein intended.
Question Posted by Sudeep
Will this fit with the stock suspension strut mounts and bumper stoppers ?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
Bilstein designed this strut to fit like an OEM part. It will accept an OEM strut mount and upper spring seat. However, it will not accept OEM bump stops or dust bellows as the piston shaft diameter is significantly larger than OE style components. This strut has a built in bump stop which is inside the shock body. The dust bellow is designed to clearance the larger piston shaft appropriately.
