Product Information

The SPEC Stage 1 Clutch Kit features an integrally molded carbon kevlar-based, high performance organic lining that offers smooth engagement and excellent life. This lining has an integrally bonded steel backing for strength under high clamp loads and temperatures. The hub is double sprung with spring cover relieves for flexibility and heat treated components for strength and durability. Best for street and many track/off-road applications.

Note: FCP Euro has determined that this clutch kit will not fit Team MFactory flywheels. FCP Euro does not sell Team MFactory flywheels but has assisted customers who have had fitment issues with Spec clutch kits and Team MFactory flywheels. Having seen the issues in person at our facility we have determined that the spacing and size of the dowels on the Team MFactory flywheels cannot fit the dowel hole sizing or spacing on the Spec clutch kits. It also appears that modification to the dowel holes on the pressure plate is not possible as the dowel hole size difference is significant. However, the Spec clutch kits perfectly fit the Spec 6 bolt and 8 bolt steel/aluminum flywheels. For trouble free installation we recommend ordering this clutch kit with the recommend flywheels as noted in the fitment guide associated with your year and model.

Transmission Clutch Kit

Clutch kits are made up of two main components, the clutch friction disc and the clutch pressure plate. Both of these components transfer torque from the flywheel to the transmission. There are several different types of manual transmission clutches in terms of operation but they all perform the same basic function.

Clutches are a pure wear item. In some cases you may have the option to replace a pressure plate or clutch disc separately but its always best to replace both at the same time along with other component such as the rear main seal, pilot bearing, release bearing, and shifter parts.

Transmission Clutch Kit Failure Symptoms
  • Slipping under acceleration
  • Engine revs freely but the vehicle does not accelerate
  • Difficulty shifting gears
  • Squeaking noises while the clutch pedal is pressed
  • Sticky or spongy clutch pedal feel when the clutch pedal is pressed
  • Burning smell from slipping clutch

DO NOT BUY
In less than 15,000 miles this clutch has failed. Along with the disk failing it also destroyed the pressure plate and flywheel. The riveting in the clutch makes contract to the flywheel/pressure plate and will cause hotspots and gouges. It’s preformed ok when it was new but degraded very quickly. This clutch never once saw a track day of any kind, through regular street driving it is totaled in less than 15,000 miles. I wouldn’t recommend this clutch anyone for any reason.

Extremely disappointed - Replacement broke faster than the first
The first kit lasted for a month before a light squeak during clutch engagement started to develop. The squeak turned into a loud scream over time. I replaced every pulley looking for the answer until I found out the flywheel was scored from the clutch packs overheating where they're riveted. Not sure if this is a materials change from SPEC, but they said they'd never seen this issue before. After some back and forth, they said it must have been a loose rivet, but nothing is loose. I returned the first kit and had the replacement installed. Sure enough, the noise came back within 3 weeks. I took extra time to break in this clutch (over 1000 miles driven, nearly 800mi of which was in-town), but it still repeated the issue: a groove in the flywheel above the rivets in the clutch packs. Extremely disappointed. Way too much money and time spent on an issue that should never happen. Worth noting that this is a pump gas vehicle making not more than 500ft/lbs. I do not race, I do not launch, and I barely redline the car. Don't buy it.

Spec stage 3 clutch
Do yourself a favor and buy the stage 3 plus. This thing is a POS flaked and fell apart after a month of normal driving. Stay away from this crap. FCP euro better accept my return.
