Product Information

OEM replacement shock absorber, ideal for those looking to keep their BMW's suspension stock

Shock absorbers are a common wear item on higher mileage vehicles in general. On a more performance oriented vehicle such as a BMW worn or completely blown shock absorbers will have a negative effect on performance and handling. If your BMW's ride has become bouncy over rough road surfaces there is a good chance that the shock absorbers will need to be replaced.

Per BMW is it required to replace the bump stop when installing new shock absorbers. Additionally, FCP recommends replacing shock absorbers in matched pairs as well as replacement of the shock mounts themselves.

Suspension Shock Absorber

If your suspension is feeling "bouncy" or "loose" it can likely be attributed to blown or worn shock absorbers. The purpose of shock absorbers is to dampen the recoil of the coil spring as your travel over dips and bumps in the road.

Suspension Shock Absorber Failure Symptoms
  • Noise over bumps
  • Squeaks
  • Leaks
  • Poor Handling
  • Harsh ride

About Sachs

ZF Sachs AG, also known as Fichtel & Sachs was founded in Schweinfurt in 1895 and was a well-known German family business. At its last point as an independent company, the company name was Fichtel & Sachs AG. In 1997, the automotive supplier was taken over by Mannesmann and renamed Mannesmann Sachs AG. As of 2001, Sachs belonged to ZF Friedrichshafen as a subsidiary company ZF Sachs AG. In 2011, ZF Sachs, like other Group subsidiaries, was legally merged with ZF Friedrichshafen AG and the independent business units integrated into the ZF divisions. Sachs has since become a brand of ZF Friedrichshafen AG.

Sachs is a trusted brand of the ZF family, which includes Lemforder, TRW, Boge, Stabilus, ZF parts and Sachs Performance. All divisions are well respected within their automotive specialty as they are all OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) to car brands like Audi, Porsche, BMW, Volvo and more. Sachs specializes in shock absorbers, struts and clutches, with FCP Euro stocking many solutions based on your needs, be it an OE replacement or a higher performance clutch, shock or strut. All Sachs parts are built to meet or exceed the OEM specifications, this provides confidence and value when choosing Sachs over a Genuine part.

Got My Original Ride Back
My entire suspension was worn out. It was great to be able to get everything in one place. These Sachs BMW Shocks fit as expected and help improve the ride quality and handling immensely.

Amazing alternative for E46
I installed this on my E46 that is running the Eibach Pro-Kit. In the past, the best OEM suspension setup for the E46 used to be the MTech dampers. However, Sachs discontinued the rear MTech dampers (556-884) years ago. This E36 M3 Sachs shock is a great alternative, being 8.1mm thicker in diameter with more fluid than comparable E46 shocks. Performance is outstanding and comfort is good too. No need to shell out for expensive aftermarket stuff IMO. The only difference seems to be that they are ever so slightly taller than E46 shocks when fully extended, so you might have to raise the car a little higher than usual to remove your rear wheels.

These were recommended for my 325xi on the e46fanatics forum. Were a perfect fit and replacement for the old and leaking original shocks. Amazingly the ride quality is the same, even with 250 lbs of bird seed and other household supplies in the trunk. I was expecting a stiffer ride, but happy overall. The Meyle HD mounts were not identical to the originals but still worked.
