About Genuine BMW

The original parts used by BMW to build your car are available as replacement parts under the “Genuine BMW” brand. When ordering a Genuine BMW part you are guaranteed to get the same part that you would pick up from your local dealerships part department. Genuine BMW parts have been built to BMW’s stringent standards and are the same quality of the original parts used to build your Ultimate Driving Machine.

You may not realize this, but the parts that make up your BMW are not necessarily manufactured by BMW. No cause for concern, as BMW designs the part, hires a manufacturer, and ensures its quality to you. In fact, many of these manufacturers have been making parts for BMW for decades. In our industry these manufacturers are called OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers), and these are often brands you recognize, including Lemforder, ZF, Sachs, Bosch, Valeo, Zimmermann, Siemens VDO, Corteco, and more. Don’t be surprised to open that Genuine BMW parts box and find an OEM branded part inside, simply with the addition of a BMW logo.

Be sure to keep an eye out for OE tags on our product pages to quickly identify parts coming direct from OE manufacturers. That extra bit of insight could save you some serious money while shopping! Refer to our OE Academy for further information regarding the OE/OEM tags throughout the site.

Questions & Answers

Ask a question
Question Posted by Thomas
My earlier question was answered with a statement that a set screw was used to hold the upper and lower shift levers together. Perhaps I do not have the original shift lever for my car, but after I asked my original question, I noticed that there is a snap ring inside the bottom skirt of the upper shift lever that holds everything together - there is no set screw. The only remaining question now is whether this part is still available from BMW, and if there is a better solution to the problem of a worn shift lever bushing.
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
Best if you were to give us a call or better, to email us with an image of your current set up so we can get a better view of what you are working with. Our service team can be reached at service@fcpeuro.com, there are several aftermarket set ups that may be different then the pivot pin and set screw, perhaps its still factory and we can point you in the right direction.
Question Posted by Thomas
How does one install this? Obviously, you must remove the shift lever. Once that is complete, how does one separate the lower portion of the lever from the upper portion in order to replace the lower portion?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
There is a grub screw that presses against the base of the shifter that you will need to remove from underneath the car to slide the shift lever off the bushing and pivot point on the transmission to remove and replace the shifter.
