Question Posted by Marvin
How to perform a calibration adjustment of the metering unit after installation. I just bought the unit.
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
This will likely need to be performed with factory coding software (INPA/ISTA) or with a scan tool that specifically features BMW bi-directional functionality. You are welcome to email this question and reference this part number along with your vin to service@fcpeuro.com and we can further assist with diagnostic/procedural assistance.
Question Posted by Matthew
On an E70 X5, how do you perform that calibration? Any chance I can accomplish this with the Foxwell NT510.
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
We don't have any first-hand experience with Foxwell products and are unfamiliar with which features your particular scan tool has or doesn't have. If it's anything like the Autel MD808 it probably will not offer bi-direction control of the metering valve or have the special test required for calibrating the system to the new metering valve.
Question Posted by a customer
Where on the vehicle would I find this part, and can an amateur replace one?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
It's location varies based on the vehicle. 335d's this unit is mounted downstream on the DPF, on X5's this is located on a section of the exhaust downstream from the DPF. It is possible to replace this part as it's relatively out in the open. Biggest thing is to make sure the lines are sealed off and don't become contaminated with external debris. It is also required to perform a calibration adjustment of the metering unit after installation.
Question Posted by Paul
Hi I was told from the dealership that this valve was clogged causing my fault codes... anyone have experience with this. I YouTube’s videos and did see a lot of clogged/corroded with white crystallized DEF fluir residue but when I went to inspect my valve it was not very dirty at all. Could this valve still be bad and need replacement ?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
Unfortunately there is no way for us to know specifically what tests the dealership performed during their diagnosis to determine this valve was faulty. Assuming the diagnostic test includes a calculated flow rate and was done using factory test equipment. Visual corrosion/residue on this valve is not necessarily indicative that there isn't an internal issue with this valve. if you are not confident of the diagnosis the dealership performed it may not hurt to get a second opinion.
