Product Information

Rebuilt axle from BMW, fits left and right applications

There are many ways in which an axle can get damaged and will need to be replaced. For example, high performance cars such as the M5 and M6 are more likely to strip the axle splines from a hard launch, crack the axle shaft, or break a CV joint. More commonly, most axles meet their demise from a torn axle boot. This rebuilt axle shaft assembly is the same component that BMW used to build the car in the factory. We have even heard that BMW rebuilt axle's are stronger than the original component as the rebuild process uses any upgraded parts available.

CV Axle Assembly

The CV (Constant Velocity) axle assembly is responsible for transferring torque and rotational power from the transmission to the wheels while allowing for suspension movement and steering articulation. The CV axle consists of a shaft with joints at both ends: a CV joint that connects the axle to the transmission and another CV joint that connects the axle to the wheel hub. This design allows the axle to handle changes in angle and length as the vehicle moves, especially when turning or going over bumps.

CV Axle Assembly Failure Symptoms
  • Clicking or Popping Noises: One of the most common signs of a failing CV axle is a clicking or popping noise when turning the vehicle. This noise typically occurs when the CV joint is damaged or worn out, especially during sharp turns.
  • Vibration While Driving: A failing CV axle can cause noticeable vibrations while driving, especially at higher speeds. This vibration may indicate that the axle is bent, or damaged, or that the CV joints are worn out.
  • Grease Leaks: If the CV axle boot tears or cracks, grease can leak out. You may notice grease on the inside of the wheel or around the CV joint. This can lead to increased wear on the joint due to a lack of lubrication.

About Genuine BMW

The original parts used by BMW to build your car are available as replacement parts under the “Genuine BMW” brand. When ordering a Genuine BMW part you are guaranteed to get the same part that you would pick up from your local dealerships part department. Genuine BMW parts have been built to BMW’s stringent standards and are the same quality of the original parts used to build your Ultimate Driving Machine.

You may not realize this, but the parts that make up your BMW are not necessarily manufactured by BMW. No cause for concern, as BMW designs the part, hires a manufacturer, and ensures its quality to you. In fact, many of these manufacturers have been making parts for BMW for decades. In our industry these manufacturers are called OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers), and these are often brands you recognize, including Lemforder, ZF, Sachs, Bosch, Valeo, Zimmermann, Siemens VDO, Corteco, and more. Don’t be surprised to open that Genuine BMW parts box and find an OEM branded part inside, simply with the addition of a BMW logo.

Be sure to keep an eye out for OE tags on our product pages to quickly identify parts coming direct from OE manufacturers. That extra bit of insight could save you some serious money while shopping! Refer to our OE Academy for further information regarding the OE/OEM tags throughout the site.

Questions & Answers

Ask a question
Question Posted by a customer
I am hearing grinding and rubbing noise from the rear end of my BMW E60 M5, can you pls confirm is it the rear axle or the rear diff, can you help
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
There really is no way for us to confirm on our end what the issue can be since issues like this have to be diagnosed in person. The description of the problem could potentially be a bad differential but it could also be the axle or the wheel bearing. We advise a full diagnosis of the problem before throwing parts at the problem.
