Product Information

For 3.0i E53 X5's with automatic transmissions, a critical part of your BMW's cooling system

Radiators are tasked with exchanging heat to the atmosphere. In doing so it helps keep the engine coolant at the correct temperature and expels excess heat. With high mileage and constant exposure to extreme heating and cooling cylces BMW radiators have been known to have their end tank seals fail causing coolant leaks. Additionally, the hose necks have also been known to crack with age as well.

Another area to look at is the condition of your radiator cooling fins. Because of the radiators location at the front of the vehicle behind the bumper cover it is very easy for the radiator fins to get knocked off or damaged from road debris. If your radiator is in rough shape and has severe damage from road debris we recommend replacing it as its cooling capacity is likely reduced.

When performing a cooling system service you will lose coolant. We recommend ordering OE recommended coolant before performing the job. Please see 82141467704.

Radiator

Your radiator is an integral, and arguably, the most important part of the cooling system. It is designed to expel heat from the coolant via the small fins. Most radiators fail when the end tanks crack causing leaks, but higher mileage radiators which have missing or bent fins often are clogged up with debris which can also cause overheating issues as the radiator cannot expel heat effectively. If your radiator is in rough shape we recommend replacing it. We also highly recommend inspecting/replacing the upper and lower radiator hose at that time.

Radiator Failure Symptoms
  • Overheating
  • Coolant Leak
  • Cracking
  • Bent Fins
  • Clogged Fins caused by debris

Nissens for 05 M54 X5
Fit-perfect, comes set up for auto, no need to swap drain plugs, the plug itself is just a plain twisty plug.No leaks. The ET and ET holder was transferred to this Nissens Radiator and fit perfectly,i did not replace the O rings to the Upper ,heater hoses and tranny cooler connections. No leaks.I did however replace the lower hose which was original to the car. Longevity- To be determined- the radiator it replaced is a BMW Behr original to the X5 w 159874 miles that was leaking at the seams driver side,

Question Posted by Erik
What are the 3 O-rings for? If i get new hoses shouldn't those already have the O-rings?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
If replacing the hoses at the same time then the o-rings may not be needed.
