Product Information

For vehicles with automatic transmissions

If your BMW is overheating and coolant is leaking from the radiator you will need to replace it immediately before serious engine damage can occur. Radiators can fail in a variety of ways ranging from road debris damage or just simple fatigue of the core and end tanks.

Only for cars with radiator part number 17117534914, which has a lower fitting for the front auto trans cooler hose. Check the part number of the original radiator before placing an order.

Its critical to replace coolant with OE approved Coolant/Antifreeze otherwise the radiator can crack or fail prematurely. The anti-corrosive formula will help to protect against rust and has an extended life compared to some aftermarket options. The coolant system in your BMW protects your engine against excessive heat which can lead to added wear or engine failure in extreme cases. Protect the engine In your BMW with Genuine BMW coolant (1 Gal).

Radiator

Your radiator is an integral, and arguably, the most important part of the cooling system. It is designed to expel heat from the coolant via the small fins. Most radiators fail when the end tanks crack causing leaks, but higher mileage radiators which have missing or bent fins often are clogged up with debris which can also cause overheating issues as the radiator cannot expel heat effectively. If your radiator is in rough shape we recommend replacing it. We also highly recommend inspecting/replacing the upper and lower radiator hose at that time.

Radiator Failure Symptoms
  • Overheating
  • Coolant Leak
  • Cracking
  • Bent Fins
  • Clogged Fins caused by debris

About Mahle Behr

Mahle Behr GmbH & Co. KG is a German corporation active in the automobile industry, headquartered in Stuttgart-Feuerbach. It is a specialist for automotive air conditioning and engine cooling systems. Mahle began in 1920 when pistons made of heavy gray cast iron were being used in internal combustion engines for automobiles and there was a need for a new design. The Mahle brothers countered this trend by producing light-alloy pistons at their small, newly established company however the technology was still finicky and problems come up frequently. They soon determined that they needed to come up with a solution to keep dirt and dust out of the engine so they eventually developed air and oil filters as well. Their perseverance paid off and the light-alloy pistons began to take over the market. Today, half of all automobiles produced worldwide contain MAHLE components. MAHLE offers an extensive range of parts for everyone including pistons, cylinder liners, piston ring sets, bearings, assemblies, valves, valve train components, and air, oil, fuel, and cabin air filters. Their catalog and online database of aftermarket engine components is an indispensable reference. In early 2016, Stuttgart-based MAHLE GmbH increased its holding in the Behr Group from 36.85 percent to approximately 51 percent with the acquisition of all shares in the BWK GmbH holding company. The company now goes by Mahle-Behr.

OEM
Was identical the one in the vehicle and fit perfectly. Only issue (minor) is that these do not have the drain as the original equipment had.

Great product
Very easy fix! had a leaking radiator, took two hours to install, and boom! problem solved! I recommend all first time DIY-ers make extra extra sure to have your hoses securely fastened to the radiator, it took me a couple tries to get the quick release lined up to the groove in the upper and lower hose mounts.

37k miles and still going strong!
I replaced my radiator 37k miles ago with this OE version after I had a slow seep that was draining 1L or so of coolant per 100 miles. If your car has high mileage (120k+) consider replacing the fan at the same time. You won't realize it has failed until summer time and when it does, it might leave you stranded and in need of a tow if it's hot out. Mine failed shortly before I did the radiator at 144k miles.

BMW Behr radiator
Identical part that came out of the car (11 years old, 144k miles) except the BMW part number had been taken off. New radiator did not have drain valve although Bentley manual referenced this, to drain, remove bottom hose. This part was half of OE cost and dealer wanted $600 !!! Buy with confidence

Questions & Answers

Ask a question
Question Posted by Colin
RealOEM only lists this variant of the radiator as being for 520i LCI sedans and wagons, but the fitment notes here say it's not that simple?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
We only list fitment for models sold in the United States. The 520i was never sold here. Fitment information that we list for vehicles in this market may not be applicable to vehicles from other markets. If RealOEM shows no specific fitment notes for your vehicle then this radiator will be a direct fit.
