Product Information

For vehicles with automatic transmissions

If your BMW is overheating and coolant is leaking from the radiator you will need to replace it immediately before serious engine damage can occur. Radiators can fail in a variety of ways ranging from road debris damage or just simple fatigue of the core and end tanks.

Only for cars with radiator part number 17117519209, which does not have a lower fitting for the front auto trans cooler hose. Check the part number of the original radiator before placing an order.

Radiator

Your radiator is an integral, and arguably, the most important part of the cooling system. It is designed to expel heat from the coolant via the small fins. Most radiators fail when the end tanks crack causing leaks, but higher mileage radiators which have missing or bent fins often are clogged up with debris which can also cause overheating issues as the radiator cannot expel heat effectively. If your radiator is in rough shape we recommend replacing it. We also highly recommend inspecting/replacing the upper and lower radiator hose at that time.

Radiator Failure Symptoms
  • Overheating
  • Coolant Leak
  • Cracking
  • Bent Fins
  • Clogged Fins caused by debris

About Mahle Behr

Mahle Behr GmbH & Co. KG is a German corporation active in the automobile industry, headquartered in Stuttgart-Feuerbach. It is a specialist for automotive air conditioning and engine cooling systems. Mahle began in 1920 when pistons made of heavy gray cast iron were being used in internal combustion engines for automobiles and there was a need for a new design. The Mahle brothers countered this trend by producing light-alloy pistons at their small, newly established company however the technology was still finicky and problems come up frequently. They soon determined that they needed to come up with a solution to keep dirt and dust out of the engine so they eventually developed air and oil filters as well. Their perseverance paid off and the light-alloy pistons began to take over the market. Today, half of all automobiles produced worldwide contain MAHLE components. MAHLE offers an extensive range of parts for everyone including pistons, cylinder liners, piston ring sets, bearings, assemblies, valves, valve train components, and air, oil, fuel, and cabin air filters. Their catalog and online database of aftermarket engine components is an indispensable reference. In early 2016, Stuttgart-based MAHLE GmbH increased its holding in the Behr Group from 36.85 percent to approximately 51 percent with the acquisition of all shares in the BWK GmbH holding company. The company now goes by Mahle-Behr.

You need a different hose if replacing your factory radiator...
Found out the hard way that this rad requires a different oil cooler coolant hose (11537519494) which FCP Euro lists as being for manual cars only. This is not true! If you order this rad rather than 17117534914, you will need the aforementioned hose so the coolant system is closed. The benefit to this is that there are fewer failure points on this than the original rad & hose, since it's fewer ports and just a straightforward hose without any T fittings or extra clamps to fail.

perfect replacement
This was a [erfect replacement for my leaking radiator in my 2006 530xi touring wagon. It was identical to the original BMW one I had to replace. I could even see where the BMW sticker was scratched off the Radiator I received from FCP euro. My original BMW radiator did not have a drain plug so I just drained it by removing the lower hose. Once I put the new one in, the system took almost 2 gallons of coolant (50+50) to refill it. I also replaced the aging plastic coolant hose connector on the engine block with the upgrade Rein aluminum fitting, SKU: CRP-CHC0609, avaiable from FCP Euro. This was VERY EASY to do while I had the radiator removed. The job overall was pretty straight forward thanks available videos on Youtube.

Which one is original!?
It feels great replacing old radiator to new one, but my previous radiator had drain hole with red cap but this one doesn’t! I dont know why..then how should I drain coolant from radiator next time?

Go with OEM
I tried to source an aftermarket (CSF) radiator; however the welds at the ports did not allow me to attach the hoses. I ordered the OEM Behr and it couldn't be easier to install.
