Parking Brake Backing Plate

The parking brake support plate acts as a mounting point and sliding surface for the parking brake shoes. This support plate is often a separate piece from the brake rotor backing plate and can be replaced if there is wear or pitting. When servicing your drum-style parking brake system it's a good idea to inspect the sliding surface of the parking brake support plate to make sure the surface is in good condition. Any pitting or marring on the surface of this plate can interfere with the movement of the parking brake shoes.
