Engine Timing Chain Kit

An engine timing chain is a crucial component in an internal combustion engine that synchronizes the rotation of the crankshaft and camshafts. It ensures that the engine's valves open and close at the proper times during each cylinder's intake and exhaust strokes, maintaining optimal engine performance. Timing chains are typically made of metal and are designed to last for the life of the engine, though they can wear out or become damaged over time. Damaged or stretched chains can impact the timing on an engine and overwork the tensioner, failures in this system can cause catastrophic engine failure and costly repairs.

Engine Timing Chain Kit Failure Symptoms

Noise: A common symptom of a failing timing chain is a rattling or slapping noise coming from the engine, especially during startup or acceleration. This noise may be more pronounced at idle or startup
Poor Engine Performance: If the timing chain is stretched, it can lead to decreased power, acceleration problems, or sluggish performance

N20 Timing Chain Kit

This is a VERY late review! I purchased this kit after discovering that Iwas driving the F30 with the N20 and that these had a timing chain guide issue. I trid sourcing parts locally and was horrified. I came across Gareths videos on the removal and replacement. I watched these three times, ordered evrything from FCP and took the biggest chance ever. I have a friend who runs his own shop and he is an ex BMW tech, when Itold him my son and Ihad dobne the job, his first question was "How did you tighten the crank bolt". HAH!, like a master. Between Gareths video, your products that are OE or OEM, the price (Even shipped into SA), it is a no brainer. You have a combination going for DIY'ers that is absolutely spot on. Well done to you guys and whatever you do......keep it up!

Got what you need

This has all the parts you need. I ended up dropping my sub frame which made it a lot easier. If you do that the recommend replacing the 6 subframe bolts and the steering shaft bolts. I ended up buying those separately.

Great Product

This is the whole kit and caboodle. Came with all needed parts to perform the job, which is very convenient. This is a common issue with these engines. These guys always get the order right the first time, and shipped out very very quickly.

Great savings

The dealership will charge thousands and thousands to replace these parts. I got this kit and had my mechanic put it in. Great! Also included many parts to change out with the timing chain. Also recommend they include intake manifold gaskets too.

Questions & Answers

Hi from the UK will this fit a 2015 420i that uses the N20 engine as you only listed the 428i in the listing Regards Mike

Unfortunately we cannot guarantee fitment for non-US vehicles.

Would I be able to return some parts if it comes in a kit like this? Or is it all or nothing?

Alternatively, I would recommend either contacting us at service@fcpeuro.com with this request and we can send you a custom cart with only the items you want, or you can order the items individually using the kit page as a guide/link list.

The BMW parts website says part 11317502048, which is included in this kit, does not fit my VIN wba3c1c5xfp116790. BMW says I need 11-12-7-583-138 instead. Is this true because your site says this kit fits my car (2015 F30 N26).

Checking against your VIN this kit would fit your application and all 2015 N26 3-series. So you should be good to go here.

does this work on the xdrive 320i awd?

This is a RWD kit only.

Does this part fit on my F10? Vin WBAXG1109CC591363

Complete timing chain kit for N20 and N26 engines, includes updated oil pump drive gear along with all related components for a complete service solution

how long did it take Nate Vincent to complete this job?

Installation times vary depending on how experienced the individual is working on their car. BMW dealerships will charge approximately 10-13 hours of labor to complete this job.

Which specialty tools does this require? I see them in the video, but they are not linked in the "Things you may need" beneath this (but parts already included in the kit are). I want to make sure I do not get the incorrect tools.

The tool list is listed/linked in the description of the DIY video.

Does this part fit on my F30? Vin wba3b1109dj407517

Yes.

This timing chain replacment kit is "made in Taiwan" or from Europe?

This kit doesn't have a singular country of origin as it's made up of several individual components we already sell on our site. You can click each component included with this kit via the kit contents tab to see the individual country of origin for each part. Most of the main components included are made in Germany but some of the smaller components (such as bolts from BMW do not have a listed country of origin). You will note that a majority of the parts in this kit are Genuine BMW components. This exact kit was installed in the included DIY video.
