Product Information
Located on the lower portion of the intake manifold, a common culprit of idle and low RPM hesitation
The intake manifold adjuster, more commonly referred to as a DISA valve, is responsible for helping your BMW produce the best possible output across the rev range. The DISA valve artificially lengthens the intake runner at low RPM's for more low end torque and shortens the intake runners at high RPM's for more top end power.
A failed/failing DISA valve has the following symptoms:
- Hesitation at low rpm
- Rough idle
- Lean codes
- Loud noises from engine bay

At risk of taking off the intake multiple times, I went with the genuine part on this. Not a simple part to design to be robust since it actuates every time you push the gas pedal. The FCP site claims that Rein is the OE part but the genuine part I received says MAHLE on it. So don't buy the Rein thinking it is the same part that came on the car! I diagnosed with rough idle and the 2AA9 error code was set 100+ times in the ECU. Figured I would just do both at the same time since they have 209k miles on them now.
The last DISA valve spontaneously failed, came apart and the valve shaft got sucked into my intake costing me thousands in damage repairs.
The valve shaft will hold up marvelously well under the pressure of a cylinder head slapping the life out of it, and it will also do a VERY good job at getting stuck in an intake valve and bending it like hulk bends steel rods.
It does also do a great job at not reminding you to buy a new DISA valve, but proving that its broken (and also how much it loves you) by catastrophically destroying itself and your engine.
When you purchase a new one after spending thousands on repairs, it will appear innocent, happy, and ready to adjust your intake like no other valve in the world could.
But just remember.
One day.
It will be ready to strike again.
And you'll be 900 miles from home.
Easy replacement on my 2007 Z4 3.0si. Got some of my responsiveness back and got rid of that awful fluttering noise from when the old one would flop around.
You can see the difference in the quality updates since the original design. The diverter flap on my large DISA had broken COMPLETELY off and was literally flapping around inside the intake! So was the shaft that was part of the DISA. Thank God it didn't get in the cylinder! The new DISA came with a metal shaft and the parts otherwise felt much more robust. This is a part you can't mess around with, especially because I want to never take off this intake manifold again (3rd and hopefully last time).

I was hearing a rattle during acceleration and my car would sometimes stumble. Replacing my DISA valve with this one fixed both issues.

The location description, "left" and "lower intake" for this part is conflicting. There are two disa valves on the N52 engine. This one looks like the one farthest to the left (driver side), but it's mounted higher on the engine, on the outside of the air intake pipes. The other one is mounted under the air intake manifold. Is this the one mounted on the outside of the air intake pipes?

This is located on the left side of the intake manifold, which is also the lower section. If you are looking at the engine from the front this would be on the right side of the intake manifold from that perspective but part positions are always oriented around the seating position from the inside of the vehicle.
