Product Information

Spark plugs and ignition coils are a pretty common overlooked item. This occurs because the components are out of site, out of mind so to speak: that is until your engine starts to have misfire codes.

Spark plugs wear out over countless of thousands of ignition cycles. The wear results in misfires and poor ignition performance because the gap between the center electrode and ground electrode becomes too big. Once this occurs with a spark plug it will need to be replaced.

Ignition coils provide the energy required for the spark plug to ignite the fuel mixtures. Over countless of thousands of ignition cycles the ignition coils will wear out. We typically see ignition coil boots wear out causing poor insulation between the spark plug and coil.

Installation tips: Slowly pull the ignition coil up and take out without jerking it. Pulling out the ignition coil with jerks may cause silicone hose to tear.

Position the ignition coil and gently push it to the stop, if necessary by twisting it back and forth slightly. Check anti-twist lock. Check, whether the rubber seal of the ignition coil completely encloses the opening for the spark plug on the cylinder head cover.

Push connector onto the ignition coil in direction of the arrow with the connector fastener open. Carefully close the connector fastener in the direction of the arrow. The connector fastener must snap into place at the correct position without great effort.

Direct Ignition Coil Kit

An ignition coil is a vital car component that produces high-voltage electricity to generate a spark at the spark plug, igniting the air-fuel mixture within the engine cylinder. When an ignition coil fails, it can cause engine misfires, rough idling, reduced power, an illuminated check engine light, difficulty starting the engine, and sometimes backfiring. These issues arise from weak or inconsistent sparks produced by the malfunctioning coil.

Direct Ignition Coil Kit Failure Symptoms
  • Engine misfires: The most prominent sign, causing the engine to jerk or shudder, especially when accelerating, due to inconsistent combustion in one or more cylinders
  • Rough idling: The engine vibrates or shakes noticeably when idling due to uneven firing of cylinders
  • Decreased engine power: The car may feel sluggish or lack acceleration due to incomplete combustion

About Genuine BMW

The original parts used by BMW to build your car are available as replacement parts under the “Genuine BMW” brand. When ordering a Genuine BMW part you are guaranteed to get the same part that you would pick up from your local dealerships part department. Genuine BMW parts have been built to BMW’s stringent standards and are the same quality of the original parts used to build your Ultimate Driving Machine.

You may not realize this, but the parts that make up your BMW are not necessarily manufactured by BMW. No cause for concern, as BMW designs the part, hires a manufacturer, and ensures its quality to you. In fact, many of these manufacturers have been making parts for BMW for decades. In our industry these manufacturers are called OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers), and these are often brands you recognize, including Lemforder, ZF, Sachs, Bosch, Valeo, Zimmermann, Siemens VDO, Corteco, and more. Don’t be surprised to open that Genuine BMW parts box and find an OEM branded part inside, simply with the addition of a BMW logo.

Be sure to keep an eye out for OE tags on our product pages to quickly identify parts coming direct from OE manufacturers. That extra bit of insight could save you some serious money while shopping! Refer to our OE Academy for further information regarding the OE/OEM tags throughout the site.

Wow....what a difference!
If these are in your cart buy them! Trying to play catch up with maintenance that wasn't done on our 2016 750i xdrive....or better yet done incorrectly even when it was. Had mismatched (and wrong sized) tires front and rear (staggered) never realized how much that would affect the drivability hard shifts and shudders randomly. They also had the wrong battery type installed front and rear (lead acid) yet the system was programmed to charge them as agm still. Now for this product!.... randomly started getting drivetrain malfunction warning entered limp mode changed all 4 vanos solenoids & a wastegate actuator @ stealership ($4k+). Cleared up for a week then bam came back again. Wasn't about to go back and spend another 5k to have it still happen again so decided after alot of research to check the plugs and see what condition... bought the car @65k now 80k miles. Im 100% sure they were all original and honestly have no clue how the car was still running as halfway decent as it was. Runs noticeably smoother at idle , under load its even better shifts smoother even got rid of alot of the noise under the hood that I had attributed to lifters/valves (just gone!)... if you have this car and its noisy @f...try these! Also my mpg went up a crazy amount and that's what tells me the most as you can tell the health of an engine by its fuel economy. Before we'd get anywhere from 23-25mpg depending on how much stop and go. And now Holy Crap... 27.5-30mpg.. I seriously can't believe how much those old plugs and coils were affecting the 750. Also anyone who can watch YouTube can change these...my wife had to help get into a couple places and just watch me to help remember where things went when reinstalling. But if you think you need these....you do! And its an easy diy maybe 2hrs bring a helper to remove airbox and hold it out of your way
