Keeps your BMW's hood open, replace in pairs only

The last thing you ever want is for the hood of your BMW to clock you in the head when you are working under the hood. BMW uses pressurized gas shocks to keep the hood open negating the need for a traditional hood prop. With age, these pressurized gas shocks can develop slow leaks, eventually causing them to stop working. If your hood refuses to stay open make sure you replace the hood struts in pairs.

Hood Lift Support

Hood lift supports, or gas struts, are pressurized cylinders designed to hold up a car's hood. Over time, they can fail due to a pressure drop, often caused by exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, or contaminants. Cold weather, in particular, can reduce the gas pressure inside the struts, making them less effective at supporting the hood during cooler conditions.

Hood Lift Support Failure Symptoms
  • The hood may feel heavier or fail to stay open as high as before due to a gas leak in the lift support
  • Grease or oil leaking from the existing shocks
  • Seeping noise or creaks coming from the shocks when lifting the hood or trunk
  • Hood or trunk fails to stay open when raised

Amazing quality

For 2012 335i and 335is there was a mid-year change for which is the correct part. Don't trust the green box "Yes, this part will fit." Confirm by reading the fitment notes. Check you car mfg date.

Hood lifts removal
Struggling with prying loose the retaining clips with a tiny pocket screwdriver? I bought a husky 4 piece pick set $9.99 at home depot, much easier. No need to totally remove clips, just pry away 1/8 inch. New lifts just snap in place,no need to touch clips.

Stabilus Hood Struts
These struts were for a 2009 BMW 328i E93 N51. The new struts easily support an open hood. I struggled with the right rear trunk strut but both hood struts clicked in easily. The tips of my old hood struts were filthy. Anyone installing these hood struts will want a flashlight or excellent lighting so that they can see and push aside the filthy old clips. The new clips are ready to go. Press the new hood struts onto their ball joints until the clips make a click.

Come on guys, you know owning a BMW, the hood is gonna be up quite a lot! Make it easier for you DIYers and your Euro auto techs with these hood struts! Nothing hurts worse than taking a hood latch to the dome while spending 10 hours bent over the hood watching how that YouTuber made his injector replacement look so easy. Works. Made in Mexico part was missing a bumper cap.
Works well. I ordered a pair - I got one made in Germany and one made in Mexico. The one made in Germany came in better packaging and had a bumper cap (it's on the damper body and prevents dust build up at the seal) while the part made in Mexico did not. I don't mind the part being made in different locations but the missing bumper cap meant I had to knock a star off.

The front hood shocks in my 2007 BMW had worn out after 12 years of use, so every time I opened the hood it kept falling down making it dangers to do maintenance work under the hood. I saw these and bought two of them for a good price and it fits perfect and is for sure better than the OEM ones.

Installation was very, only tool needed was a screwdriver to remove old lift supports. Just pop them in and you're set. What I like about these supports is that they are strong in the beginning and became easier to put down after a while, while the supports still being strong. Have had the product for 3-4 months now and still holds up great. The lifetime warranty sure is a bonus.
