Hood lift supports keep the hood from falling. Most modern vehicles do not have hood props and rely on gas pressurized support struts instead. FCP highly recommends replacing hood struts in matching pairs.

Hood Lift Support

Hood lift supports, or gas struts, are pressurized cylinders designed to hold up a car's hood. Over time, they can fail due to a pressure drop, often caused by exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, or contaminants. Cold weather, in particular, can reduce the gas pressure inside the struts, making them less effective at supporting the hood during cooler conditions.

Hood Lift Support Failure Symptoms
  • The hood may feel heavier or fail to stay open as high as before due to a gas leak in the lift support
  • Grease or oil leaking from the existing shocks
  • Seeping noise or creaks coming from the shocks when lifting the hood or trunk
  • Hood or trunk fails to stay open when raised

Correct hood strut for e9x M3 (200N)
Same part number is listed everywhere for the 330N strut by same OE manufacturer without BMW markings. That is NOT the correct pressure for the lighter hood on M3s. Yes, it's a lot cheaper but we have no choice but to pay a lot more and get these. Product gets 5 stars and so does FCP. Sucks we can't get 200N strut from stabilus at the same price as the 330N without bmw markings.

Hood struts
100% perfect fit. It's been a real pain to find the correct hood struts for an M3 hood, which is aluminum. A normal E9x requires a strut with 330N of force. These are 200N, for the lighter hood.
