Product Information

Also known as a crankshaft pulley, control engine harmonics, includes one time use replacement bolts

Harmonic balancers have a simple objective, to control engine harmonics. Without a harmonic balancer the engine will basically tear itself apart. Over time the harmonic balancer may wear out requiring replacement.

Engine Harmonic Balancer

A harmonic balancer is a component of an engine that absorbs vibrations and minimizes resonance. A failing harmonic balancer can cause serious engine damage, so it's important to diagnose and repair it quickly.

Engine Harmonic Balancer Failure Symptoms
  • Engine vibration: A failing harmonic balancer can cause the engine to shake excessively, especially at high speeds
  • Knocking noise: A knocking sound from the front of the engine can be an early sign of a separating outer ring
  • Squeaking noise: A squeaking noise as the engine rotates could be a sign of a failing harmonic balancer

It was in that same year that Freudenburg partnered with an Italian seal manufacturer Corte & Cosso, creating the Corteco brand. Continuing their history of innovation, Corteco introduced Micronair cabin filters in 1989 and quickly became the market leader in cabin filtering technology.

Corteco Fail
This Corteco harmonic balancer failed (ripped) in just 16 months and less than 8,000 miles on a stock 2011 335D. If it wasn't for the FCP lifetime warranty I would not be installing Corteco again but will now be inspecting it every 6 months. I will not be purchasing any other Corteco products from now on for the vehicles I work on.

Harmonic Balancer
My mechanic just replaced the harmonic balancer, serpentine and ac belt on my 2011 BMW 335d w/ 114k miles on it yesterday. Perfect fit, smooth engine again, don't know how long it will last but if it last over 100k I will be extremely satisfied as I plan to keep the car. I also think the reason my original BMW balancer lasted so long is because I have not use the ac on the car as often which causes additional stress on the pully. Very nice to know that there is a lifetime warrantee with FCP Euro.

Perfect - Redesigned over original parts too!
The harmonic balancer failed on our late 2006 X5 3.0d failed just recently - the inner track separated from the outer and it was spinning freely. Bought this one (OEM part, fantastic price and insanely fast shipping by DHL as always). We installed this yesterday, and what a difference. I should note that the new one has been improved / redesigned over the original one that was on our car. The new balancer has twice as much rubber material in the core (far more stability and overall integrity) and also has ventilating holes on the backside of the center support plate, so it won't cook the rubber under high load and will likely last a LOT longer. I can't say if the aftermarket versions have these improvements, but in all honesty if they DON'T - you'd be mad not to stick with this updated OEM part. The engine in the X5 is smooth and happy again, and we're all absolutely certain there has been an overall noise reduction from this replacement. Totally happy!
