Product Information

A complete service kit for when your BMW's 6HP26 transmission Mechatronic unit is removed from the transmission, includes required replacement seals, filter/pan assembly, required fluid, and hardware to complete the service

Mechatronic issues are the most common source of performance problems associated with the 6HP transmission. The most basic source of performance issues starts with the seals which seal the Mechatronic unit to the body of the transmission. A leak or defect in these seals can cause a pressure loss which causes shift quality problems.

More advanced issues with the 6HP26 transmission stem from the Mechatronic unit itself. Solenoid failure and electronic issues are relatively common. In order to address either issue the Mechatronic will require removal and all seals will need to be replaced.

This kit has been designed to handle the most basic Mechatronic service to complete replacement. All hardware, seals, and filter/fluids are includes to make for a pain free service of the 6HP26 Mechatronic unit.

Transmission Service Kit

The transmission oil filter prevents harmful particulate matter from entering the transmission valve body and damaging valve body bores, solenoids, and other fluid passages. Foreign particles in valve body bores, solenoids, or passages will cause shifting issues. Some of these issues include delayed shifts, harsh shifts, or no gear engagement in extreme cases. Clogged filters can reduce fluid volume and flow in the transmission causing starvation of the transmission pump. This can be identified by an RPM-dependent whine from the transmission bell housing area. The transmission oil filter should be changed during any fluid service, and it is critical to replace the filter if major transmission components are replaced such as the torque converter, transmission pump, or transmission valve body.

Needs more fluid.
I have no problems with the parts. The job went well, but there should really be another liter of fluid when changing seals. I wish I realized that before I did this service.

I purchased a complete transmission kit for my GA6HP26Z transmission and i received the wrong kit. I was at my Indy shop so i ended buying a local distributor World Pak. The worst is trying to get in touch with anyone at FCP Euro, no phone contact only emails a few days later, i was stuck with my car on a lift.

Everything I needed to service my 2012 e70 6 speed is in this kit, and its best price around for ALL OE ZF parts, nothing was aftermarket, all the orings were soft and the filter was manufactured 2 months before I purchased it. The thing has never shifted better!

Good, Complete Kit, Should Include 8L of Fluid
This kit is complete with all the seals and sleeve you’ll need for a full mechatronic service. Make sure to order an extra liter of fluid though. This kit should really include 8. A lot of the time when you drop the valve body, it takes more than 7 liters of trans fluid. Mine took just under 7.5. Save yourself the hassle of trying to source another liter of ZF fluid and order an extra one.

great kit for 335d
i recently bought a 335d and wanted to replace the transmission fluid. i did my research and ended just wanting to do everything (the mechatron, sleeves and that square piece) everything arrived well packaged. as for the installation its a messy job, like really messy, specially the filling part and it hurts to spill the ZF fluid at $15/qt, good thing it has lifetime warranty that way i dont have to buy it again. overall Great kit. will recomend this %100 if you have hard shift up and down. for me on my 335d it was hard shift from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 1st, and this kit fixed it. it also seem that it was the first time my car was getting a transmission service as the magnet had a decent amount of gunk in them and the sleeves were really hard too (not flexible like the new ones). i will be doing this kit every 50k miles from now. if you are going to do this get yourself one of those big metal pans, like really big.

Worked great, but needed more fluid.
I bought this kit to use on a 2004 Jaguar XJR with the ZF 6hp26. Everything worked perfectly, however I ended up needing 9qts of fluid instead of the 7 that the kit comes with.

Mechatronics kit for 2008 550i with ZF 6HP28 (BMW P/N GA6HP26Z, AKA "GEN2") Transmission
This is the essential kit that has all of the parts that wear or need periodic replacement within the valve body. These are genuine ZF parts, not aftermarket. The oil pan has the "made in German" imprint and is a genuine BMW part. I also replaced all of the solenoids with new ZF units. I also chose to replace the "piston dampners" inside the valve body with the SONNAX replacement parts. The original dampners use rubber cushions which have a history of breaking down and loosing their spring effect, the SONNAX replacement parts use metal springs. Replacing these will require opening the valve body and a new separator plate is required, a 10 minute job if you keep the valve body half containing the check balls, spring valves and filters on the table and lift off the half with the solenoids. I did mine keeping the valve body inside a plastic storage container in case any parts fell out. This may be an intimidating job if you have never removed a valve body but it is a quick an easy job if you have all of the proper parts. It also MUST be done eventually. With the cost of ZF Lifeguard 6 transmission oil over $20 a quart, yes, over $150 for 7 quarts, it makes good sense to do everything at once. There is nothing complicated about it, there are good YouTube videos by Gary Ferraro to see how it's done. Mine is the later ZF 6HP28 transmission sometimes known as the gen2 transmission or BMW part number GA6HP26Z, but the ZP part number is 6HP28.

Nice to see all necessary items when you need extended oil service. Small note: this package should come with 8 liters of ZF Lifeguard6 fluid. When you drop valve body, it will take 8L (instead of 6.5L without the drop)
