Product Information

A complete service kit for when your BMW's 6HP19 transmission Mechatronic unit is removed from the transmission, includes required replacement seals, filter/pan assembly, required fluid, and hardware to complete the service

Mechatronic issues are the most common source of performance problems associated with the 6HP transmission. The most basic source of performance issues starts with the seals which seal the Mechatronic unit to the body of the transmission. A leak or defect in these seals can cause a pressure loss which causes shift quality problems.

More advanced issues with the 6HP19 transmission stem from the Mechatronic unit itself. Solenoid failure and electronic issues are relatively common. In order to address either issue the Mechatronic will require removal and all seals will need to be replaced.

This kit has been designed to handle the most basic Mechatronic service to complete replacement. All hardware, seals, and filter/fluids are included to make for a pain free service of the 6HP19 Mechatronic unit.

Transmission Service Kit

The transmission oil filter prevents harmful particulate matter from entering the transmission valve body and damaging valve body bores, solenoids, and other fluid passages. Foreign particles in valve body bores, solenoids, or passages will cause shifting issues. Some of these issues include delayed shifts, harsh shifts, or no gear engagement in extreme cases. Clogged filters can reduce fluid volume and flow in the transmission causing starvation of the transmission pump. This can be identified by an RPM-dependent whine from the transmission bell housing area. The transmission oil filter should be changed during any fluid service, and it is critical to replace the filter if major transmission components are replaced such as the torque converter, transmission pump, or transmission valve body.

Transmission Service Kit Failure Symptoms
  • Whining noise from the transmission pump
  • Driveability and shift quality issues including harsh shifts, delayed shifts, or no gear engagement

I think it would be good if you added an transmission filter gasket to this kit.

Fixed 2-1 Downshift Bump
My 2006 325i w/6HP-19 ZF transmission started to develop a 2-1 bump when downshifting. I used this kit along with shift solenoids and it cured the issue. Like others, I needed an additional quart of fluid. I think when you drop the mechatronic unit (valve body) the unaccounted for fluid drains out which is about 1/2 quart. When I first drove the car it did shift a little rough but after about 5 miles it cleared up. It’s continuously improved it’s shifting as it “relearned” the amount of wear in the clutches. After 1200 miles of driving its shifts are smooth and unnoticeable which is a great improvement when compared to before. Overall, don’t be afraid to do this service on your 6HP-xx ZF transmission. Mine had 198,000 miles when I done this service with an unknown service history. Fluid was burnt and opaque. I had very little magnet accumulation and found no shavings in the pan. It was a very rewarding DIY.

My BMW 530 xi sport wagon has a manufacture date of 09/05. WBANN73566CN02460, One kit is for up to 09/05 and the other is from 09/05. So unsure of which one is the correct kit. Can you please tell me if this kit is the correct one for my wagon? Thank you.
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
This vehicle VIN shows that it uses the post-split mechatronic adapter, this kit would not be compatible to the VIN.
