Product Information
This is a cost effective replacement fuel pump insert from Pierburg (TI Automotive) and is an OE replacement that allows you to just replace the pump versus replacing the whole assembly.
Please note: Removing the original insert from the basket is a three person job because it requires depressing three lock tabs to slide the insert out of the basket. Because the basket has been submerged in fuel for a long period of time, or is even original, you will want to be careful depressing these tabs while pulling the original insert out. You will also need to remove the original pre-filter from the bottom of the pump before removing the insert. It can be pulled off relatively easily as it just slips on the end of the pump inlet. Before completely removing the insert note the orientation of the original insert so the replacement can be installed in the same position.. There is a dimple on the side of the insert that helps align the insert and the basket. When installing the new insert you will need to support the bottom of the basket as the insert protrudes through the bottom of the basket. When pushing the inert back in some force is needed to depress the locking tabs. Push the insert in so the locking tabs close on the lip around the pump. Once the locking tabs are flush to the pump it is secured in place.
A Fuel Pump is responsible for transferring fuel from the tank to the engine at the appropriate pressure. By delivering a consistent fuel flow, the fuel pump ensures the engine has the right fuel-air mixture for combustion, allowing the vehicle to run smoothly. Most modern vehicles use electric fuel pumps, which are typically located inside the fuel tank.
Fuel Pump Failure Symptoms- Difficulty Starting or No Start: A failing fuel pump may struggle to deliver fuel at the required pressure, resulting in hard starting or, in severe cases, a no-start condition. This is particularly noticeable during cold starts
- Engine Stalling or Sputtering: If the fuel pump intermittently loses power or pressure, the engine may stall, sputter, or hesitate while driving, especially under heavy acceleration or at high speeds. This is often a sign of insufficient fuel flow
- Loss of Power Under Load: A faulty fuel pump may not be able to provide the increased fuel flow needed during activities that require more power, such as driving uphill or accelerating quickly. This can cause a noticeable loss of power or hesitation in response
