If your BMW's front suspension feels sloppy over the road and the handling doesn't seem to be what it used to be there is a good chance that your struts need replacing. The strut assemblies are a key structural and performance part of your BMW's suspension and will need to be replaced when they are worn out. Always replace strut assembles in matched pairs.
Per BMW it is absolutely vital to replace the bump stops when installing new strut assemblies.

If your ride feels a little bouncy or you can feel clunks in the suspension while it's going over bumps it is likely due to worn strut assemblies and shock absorbers. The purpose of the strut assembly is it acts as a central pivot point for the suspension while housing the coil spring. It also dampens the compression and rebound of the coil spring as the suspension moves up and down. When replacing suspension components it is highly recommended to replace them in pairs.
