This OEM gasket is used to seal your exhaust components preventing them from leaking.

material disintegrated just leaving a mesh and an exhaust leak after 2-3k miles
I’ve bought these HJS rings multiple times in the past, and they always came with a smooth finish. This time, they came in with a mesh-style finish, as shown here. They will deteriorate quickly and won’t last.
I replaced these gaskets to fix an exhaust leak, however while the exhaust leak was fixed initially after replacing them, I noticed that after a single track day the exhaust note had changed and the car was running rougher than usual. I pulled the exhaust again to find that the gaskets had completely burned away, leaving only the mesh shell behind. I got maybe 1000km of use out of them. I would definitely recommend avoiding these and sticking with genuine BMW.
These only lasted a few hundred miles and didn't survive a single track day. Exhaust leak came back on and caused a CEL. Once removed there was nothing but the wire reinforcement remaining. Stick with OEM
The gasket looks different in person but fits perfect. Make sure to get some grease and there aren't any instructions on torque but I've had it on for about a month and things have been going well.
I started to notice a smell in the morning, it got stronger as I drove with the windows down.
Had a buddie check it, they were chewed up! both left and right side on my E90 M3.
Replaced on both sides, all is good now!
Make sure this gets changed whenever you do any exhaust work or if youre starting to CEL from primary cats, etc.
Well does what it needs to do and keep my exhaust from leaking. A must buy when doing exhaust work when you still have the ones from the factory.
