BMW Engine Oil Pan Baffle - FCP Euro 11137618512BFL

When BMW created the N20, they optimized every single metric that contributes to fuel economy - including oil flow. The N20 and N26 use a variable displacement oil pump for this reason, leading to slim oil pressure margins even during daily driving.

Coupled with a completely open oil pan - under hard cornering and braking - these margins vanish. In it's stock form, oil pressures dip down into the low-teens, sometimes even single digits during performance driving. While this isn't typically an issue for commuter cars, any more than a just a few instances of high RPM or heavy load with extremely low oil pressure will cause total engine failure.

Through our experience with the N20/N26 engine, and building our 328si project car, we developed a solution for the N20s oiling issues - compatible with all RWD N20-based BMWs. Fitting both the plastic and aluminum oil pan kit, this bolt-on baffle cures the N20s oil starvation issues with zero welding or fabrication. Developed in-house and made in the USA from CNC-bent 304 Stainless Steel.

Disclaimer: While this oil pan baffle has been proven to drastically improve oil pressure under braking, cornering, and high-G's, there are other measures that need to be taken to ensure the N20 can live at a race-track. Adding up to 1 quart of additional oil (overfilled) has been found to help the longevity of N20s at the limit. Heat management, existing bearing wear, and bearing clearances are all factors that contribute to the health of an N20 on track. If you're planning to participate in endurance racing or extended track driving, we'd recommend investing in new engine bearings, additional cooling, a lower temperature thermostat, and additional oil control solutions such as an Accusump.
