Electric Fuel Pump

An electric fuel pump is responsible for pumping fuel from the fuel tank to the engine at the appropriate pressure and flow rate. Electric fuel pumps are typically located inside the fuel tank or mounted externally and are activated by the vehicle’s ignition system. They ensure that fuel is delivered consistently to the engine for combustion, supporting overall engine performance and efficiency.

Electric Fuel Pump Failure Symptoms
  • Difficulty Starting the Engine: If the fuel pump is struggling to deliver fuel, the engine may have trouble starting or may take longer than usual to crank and start
  • Loss of Power: A malfunctioning fuel pump can lead to a loss of engine power, making it difficult to accelerate or maintain speed, especially when climbing hills or carrying heavy loads

lasted about 1 1/2 months
bought it june 9th 2026, lasted until july 27 2026, when i replaced it on june 9th it was due to low fuel pressure causing long cranks, it was good until it just failed with no warning, will be replacing under warranty, really hope it doesnt happen again.

lasted 1 year
im not sure if i can blame the pump itself or if its an issue with the design of the X5's fuel tank and bucket system. but after having purchased this replacement pump to deal with a stalling and fuel starvation issue, this pump began to fail in the exact same way only a year and some change latter. this could be because of a failure within another part of the fuel sender & bucket assembly which makes it difficult to replenish fuel in the sender bucket when the take is near or below a quarter tank, causing the pump to starve and overheat, but i have a Z4 sdrive 30i with im assuming the exact same style of pump system and have ran all the way from topped off to damn near bone dry with no issues. its puzzling to say the least, but for the length of time the pump was working it worked perfectly fine even below 1/4th tank. will replace the pump again aswell as the sender assembly and see if that settles the issue for good.
