4 piece control arm kit featuring Meyle HD tension struts and standard Meyle lower control arms

This is a front suspension refresh kit for all 6 cylinder E39 models. The E39 chassis is notorious for breaking thrust arm bushings which come from the factory as a hydro filled bushing. This kit is comprised of Meyle HD tension struts which feature solid rubber bushings and all steel outer ball joints with standard Meyle lower control arms.

We recommend replacing all of your components if you have in excess of 80K miles and still have original components. We also encourage that you replace your control arm components if you are experiencing the following symptoms:

  • Popping, clunking, or clicking sounds while traveling over bumps or dips in the road
  • A disconnected feeling between the steering wheel and front end of the car
  • Vehicle is slow to respond to steering inputs
  • Vehicle wanders on the highway or will not drive straight
  • Vehicle cannot be aligned properly due to play in front suspension

Better Than Karolyn Not As Good As Lemforder. E39 528i T 5 M

Replaced original control arms and tension struts on E39 528iT touring with Karolyn made pieces 8 years / 80 miles ago. I next replaced tension arm (thrust arm ) bushings with black PowerFlex bushings (hand fitted / turned) and knew after the second or third time (every 10k miles) of removing and re-lubing them with anti-seize that I was going to next go with the Meyle solid rubber bushings and dump the PowerFlex blacks. The Karolyn control arms held up well over the years until I recently started getting front end shimmy under braking and hard cornering. Once removed I could see the inner metal sleeves of the control arms had separated and needed replacing. Ordered the Meyle kit. Completed the install of lower control arms (camber arms) and tension struts (thrust arms) on my touring this past weekend. Ball joints on spindle end seem tight .. we'll see how they do over time. Solid rubber bushings on sub-frame end seem like a better solution than fluid filled (OEM thrust arm bushings) ones. Always hesitant to change to a harder durometer / solid solution when BMW engineers invested the time to use fluid filled ones for NVH (Noise vibration harshness). For this reason, I replaced (kept) my rear touring sub-frame bushings with OEM Lemforder Fluid filled versus the solid Meyle solution. Would buy the Meyle kit again (skip the fluid filled thrust arm bushings from BMW or Lemforder).

My car had all the original BMW Control arms, and with 151k miles I was starting to experience a lot of vibration in the front end. The 4-piece kit fit perfectly on my 03 E39! After the right alignment my car drives like new!
